fandomhighdorms | Sixth Floor; Late Tuesday Afternoon and On! [ 09/24 ] -- Ino's Birthday Party!

There was hopefully no way that Ino could begrudge Cal having her party a day late, especially since it was a far cry from being a day short. The food he had planned caused him to get some use out of that sixth floor kitchen and space, and he'd been to the task ever since he finished with Oceanography class in hopes to get it finished before everyone started showing up. If they did. He'd ~~handwavily because the mun sucks~~ passed out the invitations through everyone's door, but who only knew with the drama of yesterday.

If no one showed up, he'd have to deal with a pouting Ino. But, on the bright side, he'd have all this delicious Greek food for leftovers basically until eternity, because there was a lot of it.

He'd even decorated a little, subtly, with some occasional touch of purple. And a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY INO!" banner in case anyone couldn't figure out what it was all about. Throw on some music, and there it was. There was nothing to the party part. It was mostly about the food, anyway.

Oh, and Ino. Her, too.

Jennifer hugged her friend tight. "Absolutely," she said.

Cliiing.

"See," she laughed, "that's nice too. People just agreeing with me like I'm always right."

She just wished she was, really.

"Well, today is your belated birthday," Jennifer said. "That means you are always right."

"You won't hear me arguing about that," she noted. "What's been up with you lately?"

"Not much," Jennifer said. "Class, tea with Alice, and getting to enjoy the influx of boys yesterday without being one myself."

"I hate you," she said lightly. "I was a boy, again, how unfair is that?"

"Very," Jennifer said, chuckling. "I guess my own changing issues overrode whatever the island tried. Or... something."

"Speaking of that," Ino said, grinning up at her. "I'll be stalking Miss Atreides down next Monday--she's got class then, and hopefully I can catch her in her office. She doesn't seem to hold regular office hours, not that I could figure out."

"Perfect," Jennifer said. "I'm kind of... eager to find out. As much as I think the whole thing will probably not be fun."

"If you thought it'd be fun," Ino commented, "I'd say you're more masochistic than I am."

Which was saying something, really.

"Definitely not masochistic," Jennifer said. "Just... wanting to know my limits."

Ino put one hand on a hip and studied her.

"You do realize that it's going to hurt, right?"

"Really? Getting stabbed hurts? I never knew," Jennifer snarked.

Ino was not going to lose her temper at her birthday party thank-you-very-much.

"Shocking, I know," she said, resisting the urge to cross her arms. "And I'll be the one doing it. It won't bother me to do that to you--is that going to bother you?"

Jennifer got serious, realizing she was being a little defensive.

"I'm glad it won't," she said. "I'd hate for you to hesitate or cause extra damage or something."

Ino gave her scary-calm mission eyes. The gaze that let her murder children.

"I don't hesitate," she said finally. "But that doesn't mean that might not be a problem for you."

"Are you worried I might think you could just, like... stab me any other time or something?" Jennifer said. "That seems ridiculous."

Her sis was so ridiculously naive that it hurt sometimes.

"...no," Ino said, blinking incredulously, mission-gaze gone just like that. "But it might freak you out to know that I'm perfectly capable of hurting you and not caring about that."

Because, you know, that'd probably freak out most people if they found out a friend could do that.

"Well, I asked you to do this," Jennifer said. "And while if I thought you would just stab me and not care under other circumstances that'd freak me out, this I'm okay with. It... makes you professional. Kind of."

She resisted the urge to sigh.

"We'll see how it goes, then," Ino said, "I still need to get permission, anyway. Then it'll all be how you handle it in the moment, I guess."

"I'm honestly more worried I might... try to defend myself," Jennifer said. "I'm more worried about me, here."

"Don't," Ino said, "I can handle myself, and if not then Miss Atreides will take care of it."

"Did I mention I broke a tree?" Jennifer said. "I broke a big tree."

"I'll survive," Ino promised her. "Seriously, don't worry 'bout it."

Worse came to worse, she'd try to take over Jen's mind.

Because that'd go really well, yeah.

"Okay," Jennifer said, relaxing a little. "Meanwhile... enjoy your party, geeze. You need another hug?"
