There was hopefully no way that Ino could begrudge Cal having her party a day late, especially since it was a far cry from being a day short. The food he had planned caused him to get some use out of that sixth floor kitchen and space, and he'd been to the task ever since he finished with Oceanography class in hopes to get it finished before everyone started showing up. If they did. He'd ~~handwavily because the mun sucks~~ passed out the invitations through everyone's door, but who only knew with the drama of yesterday.

If no one showed up, he'd have to deal with a pouting Ino. But, on the bright side, he'd have all this delicious Greek food for leftovers basically until eternity, because there was a lot of it.

He'd even decorated a little, subtly, with some occasional touch of purple. And a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY INO!" banner in case anyone couldn't figure out what it was all about. Throw on some music, and there it was. There was nothing to the party part. It was mostly about the food, anyway.

Oh, and Ino. Her, too.

"Layla Miller slipped me a sedative in my coffee so I would stop freaking out so much," Karla admitted cheerfully. "And the magic Reserves played both 'King of the Mountain' and 'Avoid Cranky Karla' for games. My Realm has some very...different ideas about gender." She grimaced and shook her head to clear those thoughts away. "Either way, the important thing is we're better today. And hopefully the island will have gotten all the genderswapping out of its system for a long" long, long, loooooong "time."

"Probably 'bout a year," Ino said, making a face. "It's the third time it's happened to me, which sounds 'bout right. I don't even freak anymore, I just sigh and resign myself to a day of uselessness." And sulk, but really, that was par for the course.

Seriously, fighting was all but impossible with a changed center of gravity and such.

Karla could absolutely relate to that. "I wonder if I can get some advanced warning next time," she mused. "Flee the island beforehand."

Not that that would help, but Karla wasn't yet aware of that. Oh the disillusonment!

"Could be worse though," she said, dropping her voice a bit. "Layla's still male. Seems the island wanted to teach her a lesson."

"Er," she said, wondering if she ought to break it to her.

Wait--

"Layla's still a boy?! I didn't know that could happen!"

"I didn't either," Karla said, still looking horrified. "She says the island didn't like her making things easy on people and so is keeping her male longer. I told her she could still come to my party tonight."

Which reminded her. "I'm having another slumber party tonight! Please tell me you'll come after your party is over?"

It was sort of a--bit of a blow, that, to learn that someone else was having a party the same night she was.

It was Karla, though, so--

"Yeah," Ino said, smile never wavering. "I'll be there, for sure. How could I miss it?"

Karla looked relieved to hear that. "I pushed it back to later in the evening, because I didn't want to overlap with yours too much. Have I, uh, ever told you why I throw these?"

She remembered telling Ino that she was happy to have her fighting skills at her parties, but she didn't ever think she'd explained why. "Remind me to tell you sometime soon, okay? I wouldn't--there's more to timing than just whimsy--maybe we could garden sometime soon?"

"I don't think so," she answered, wondering if that meant her next birthday was going to be over-shadowed too. Ino knew how popular Karla's parties were, after all--she went to them too.

The mention of gardening got a genuine smile out of her. "We can do that," she said, "definitely. Did you have any time in specific, or did you just want to wing it?"
