Sixth Floor; Late Tuesday Afternoon and On! [ 09/24 ] -- Ino's Birthday Party!

There was hopefully no way that Ino could begrudge Cal having her party a day late, especially since it was a far cry from being a day short. The food he had planned caused him to get some use out of that sixth floor kitchen and space, and he'd been to the task ever since he finished with Oceanography class in hopes to get it finished before everyone started showing up. If they did. He'd handwavily because the mun sucks passed out the invitations through everyone's door, but who only knew with the drama of yesterday.

If no one showed up, he'd have to deal with a pouting Ino. But, on the bright side, he'd have all this delicious Greek food for leftovers basically until eternity, because there was a lot of it.

He'd even decorated a little, subtly, with some occasional touch of purple. And a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY INO!" banner in case anyone couldn't figure out what it was all about. Throw on some music, and there it was. There was nothing to the party part. It was mostly about the food, anyway.

Oh, and Ino. Her, too.

[[ up early for great SP justice! Everyone got invites, so come one, come all, but please wait for some OCD has arrived! ]]

"No," she had to admit, "but I don't think you're so mean as to not let me have it?"

"I miiiight be," Triela sing-songed.

Of course she ruined that by holding out the box. It was only a couple of inches on each side, and wrapped in pristine ivory paper with a pearlescent white ribbon carefully tied around it.

Ino was totally going to snag her present before Triela took it away from her (again) and just sort of grin.

"I do love presents," she admitted, inspecting the ribbon.

"Well, we'll see if you still do once you get a look at it." Triela rather thought Ino would. Because while it might look like the box contained a plain purple hair ribbon, well... it wasn't that simple.

That was going to get a dubious look as she nonetheless got the present unwrapped and found herself looking at...

Well.

A plain purple hair ribbon. Ino raised her eyebrows.

"Pick it up," Triela suggested with a slight grin. She was pretty sure that Ino's fingers would be sensitive enough to feel the thin, flexible wire that ran along one edge. Subtle enough that most people would miss it, but strong enough to make it a highly effective garrote.

Ino did so and her eyebrows inched up as she realized just exactly what it was.

"You know me well," she noted, playing with the ribbon. "This is totally an awesome gift."

And no way was it going in the locker. Nuh huh.

Triela grinned. "It took me a bit of work to find the right metal, and then someone who could weave ribbon around it, but... I happen to think it worked out nicely."

She may have been a bit smug.

"I'll tell you for sure once it's been used," Ino said, smirking slightly and slipping the ribbon into her clothing.

"Do that. Then I'll know whether to order a couple of extras."

"In all different colours?" Ino teased.

"Well, probably not all of them." Triela made a small expression of distaste. "No pink for me."

"It'd suit you, though, with your hair," Ino commented. "No one would suspect you."

"I don't have any suits it would go with," Triela pointed out.

One of these days someone was going to actually convince her that owning things that didn't make you stand out (what thirteen year old wore suits?) was a pretty good idea.

...

"Most people your apparent age don't wear suits," she noted.

Triela frowned slightly. "So... what? I should dress like Momoko?"

Not that Triela had anything against Momoko. Far from it. Just... the girl wore a lot of pink.

"Not so... flamboyantly," she said, because yeah, Momoko was super nice but...

"But, like, jeans and a t-shirt. Or casual tops and a skirt."

The frown deepened a bit. "But I like suits. They feel... crisp." There was a certain precision to wearing clothes that required meticulous care to wear properly.

"Yes," she said patiently, "but you've got to suit the clothing to your mission, yeah? Mission says 'yukata' I don't wear a bathing suit just 'cause I like it better."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose," Triela said thoughtfully. "But most of my missions say 'shoot everyone'. And it doesn't really matter what you're wearing when everyone is going to die."

Little did she know canon was soon to change that!
