Salle, Monday Morning

It was just the ordinary set-up this morning: Arthur, a number of unfortunate practice dummies, a sword, and drills that were precise down to the obsessive. And Merlin, of course, although even Arthur couldn't manage to get his armor dirty every week.

He took a few more swings, focusing mainly on his footwork today.

Yes, I just put up OCD for the express purpose of mentioning that I love the actors on my show. So, so much. Bromance on, Colin and Bradley.

... They are very special, but they make me smile, all right?

"Is that really necessary?" Merlin asked dubiously. And,sadly, he was not referring to the OCD.

"Yes, Merlin," he said, with a light sigh. "I can't lose my form."

"So you bludgeon a little wooden... man shaped thing?"

"I'm not bludgeoning it," he shot back, glancing towards him. "Bludgeoning is something you do with a blunt weapon. It's entirely different."

You just keep telling yourself that, Arthur.

Which begged the question: "...what are you doing then?"

"I'm practicing," Arthur said, "Or I was. The air isn't exactly suited for a solid place to land a blow." A pause. "Unless you're planning to don some armor again."

Merlin thought long and hard on that. "Perhaps Zack will come?"

"Doubtful. He hasn't been one for Monday sparring for quite a bit."

Might as well take this as a break, then.

"I think I may have scared him off with my superior skill at the sword."

... Yeah, sure, Arthur.

Why wouldn't you want to deal with Arthur? Don't answer that. Morgana could give you a better riff on it anyway.

"Morning, Arthur." Dinah headed for her practice sword, humming. Good weekend, hopefully good week ahead, whyever not?

"..." Merlin, respond to that. "Of course."

"Or maybe he'll walk in sometime soon for a rematch," Arthur said, walking towards the bench and casting his sword down. "I'm not going to sit around and wait."

"Dinah. Good morning," he greeted, dropping out of his drill. "I trust it finds you energized."

"I'm sure he will," Merlin assured him, moving over to give him room to join.

"Yup!" Don't bounce with the sword, Dinah. "I mean, yes. I had a good weekend." And a good week before that. "You?" Foregoing more bounciness, Dinah took a breath, and settled into one of her usual stances, going through her drill.

And then she tried that twirling around thing that Zayne showed her. Ha!

He sat down with a satisfied sigh, taking a moment to relax, and massaged his own sword-bearing shoulder. "Did you happen to bring any of that bottled water?"

Holy crap, there was even a question mark in that sentence.

Arthur blinked. "What was that?"

Merlin shot him an amused look and reached under the bend for one. "How is your shoulder?"

"Something Zayne showed me?" Dinah said, trying not to sound uncertain. "Not that I'd use it. Unless someone was already off-balance and I needed a power-move..." She paused, trying to read Arthur's expression. "Or at all?" she guessed.

"Fine, just a bit sore today." Not that he'd admit to that if there was anyone else in the salle. Arthur gave it one more rub, then dropped his hand. "How's you, then?" he asked, shooting him an amused look back, "Beyond mistaking my sword for a warhammer."

That was slightly exaggerating. With the right end of a sword-- well.

"Fine," Merlin replied dryly, batting at Arthur's hand to check over the idiot's shoulder himself. "Better than you at the moment."

"It's not like I got into any major spars last night," he said, pulling his own hand away with a put-upon sigh. "Just a touch of strained muscle. It'll pass."

"I think you may need to learn how to judge your foe better before you employ that in actual battle," he said, thoughtfully.
