Merlin hadn't arrived yet, but it was time to get started. Karla, being properly female again, greeted the Reserves with a bright and cheerful smile today as they assembled in front of the dorms. "We're glad you all got our ~~handwavey~~ message about a change in location," she said. "We have a special activity in mind for everyone today." Her smile got a little broader. "It's high time the Reserves got to fend off an invasion, don't you think?"

Tony grinned, too. “So here it is – word comes in that we’re being invaded by trolls or zombies or giant insect gummy candies come to life. The fighter folks are on the other side of the island dealing with a clump of enemies there. We’ve got to defend the dorms. What do you do?”

Yum. Giant insect gummy candies. Karla knew how to deal with that threat.

"So, yeah, it's up to you guys to decide who does what, where, when and how," she continued. "The Support Reserves have turned the dorms into an infirmary, a child care station, and are researching the best way to defeat these things, so it's imperative none of the enemies get inside. Once you're done, Tony, Merlin--" if he showed up, and after seeing Francine in class today, Karla was starting to worry "--and I will test your defenses and see what happens. Do you save the dorms and be heroes? Or are we going to break in and devour the helpless in our giant gummy mandibles?"

Where there was a Magical Reserves, there was a Raven.

Raven was just a teensy bit nervous about this, but she knew she had to learn to use her abilities to protect, so she tried to swallow her anxiety. She was not, however, a leader type, so she waited to be told what to do.

Arthur arrived, given time. This was the regular fighting reserve's spot, after all.

If he was keeping an eye out for a certain wizard, once he arrived-- well, there was no easy excuse. He just was.

Well, Karla was anyway. Which was why she was off to the side, gleefully stomping on things.

Tara was there and in a good mood. She hadn't heard anything from her family about visiting over the weekend, so maybe the invitation had gotten lost in the mail.

Francine might have begged off today, not wanting to let Katchoo out of her sight for too long, if they'd been out in the Preserve, but this was close enough for her to feel comfortable with it.

Disconcertingly relaxed. even, given her mood in the last few weeks, and the the bruise and cut lip she was still sporting from last night. That last one made nibbling on cookies a challenge, but it was one she was willing to face up to.

The last time Raven had offered to heal Francine, she had turned the offer down, but when Raven felt the ache in her face and turned to seek the source, she saw Francine's face and knew this time she would not take no for an answer. "Francine?" she said, moving to the other girl's side. "What has happened to you? Who did this?" The cause must've been dealt with, she reasoned, since Francine seemed so calm, but the thought of violence upset her.

Dinah was there, snagging a sandwich because she forgot to get lunch. Also, coffee, even though she was wishing for more Beaver Buzz.

"Owwwww. When did you sign up for Fight Club?" Dinah asked, taking a cookie of her own.

"Right." Dinah was nibbling on cookies, hungry with the talk of Nummy Doom. "So, spotters on the roof again, with phones. I'm not sure how well barricades would work again, if they're really big... candy insects." She grinned. "Still, it's a start. Check-in stations at least. Ooo, teams?"

Jonothon was there, in what we shall say for him was something akin to 'the best mood ever.'

And still standing on the outskirts, by the edges of the group, yes. Old habits died hard, and all of that.

"I can observe from the air with my Soul-Self," Raven supplied helpfully.

"You are in a very good mood, Jonothon," Raven could not help but observe.

"Yes!" Dinah grinned, then looked thoughtful. "Do you need anyone to check in on you while you do that? Or does your soul-self always come back no matter what?"

"Hi, Raven." Francine regretted smiling shortly after she did it, but only because it hurt. "Nobody you know. Or would ever want to. I'm okay, though."

"It has never not returned," Raven said. "And I will be conscious and aware in my physical body while it is gone." She closed her eyes to concentrate, sending her Soul-Self out of her body and into the air. It rose to be level with the roof of the dorms and began to circle the group below.

Raven opened her eyes. "I see what it sees and feel what it feels," she said.

"We started a new one. It's called Tied To A Chair Club. I'm much more qualified for that."

Yes he had. The only reason he wasn't humming right now was his somewhat inconvenient lack of lungs and vocal chords. Which, in retrospect, would have made sheer denial into a somewhat difficult ordeal. How in the world could one cover up being in a good mood if one just so happened to be humming merry little tunes like a complete barmpot?

And so, for possibly the first and last time in his entire life, hooray, lack of lungs and complete inability to vocalize!

"Cool! So, air reconnaissance. Hmmm, people on the ground... Telepathy and phones at the same time." Dinah tilted her head. "Maybe check the Causeway first, and get back to us if it's blocked off? Or find where they're coming in from? Then we have to figure out if magic works on them, or conventional weapons."

"What?" Dinah totally earned her Tweety badge with that squeak. "When? How did-- who?" She stopped herself, facepalmed, and said, "Can we just take the five journalistic W's as asked and move on to are you okay now?"
