Outside the Dorms, Wednesday Afternoon

Merlin hadn't arrived yet, but it was time to get started. Karla, being properly female again, greeted the Reserves with a bright and cheerful smile today as they assembled in front of the dorms. "We're glad you all got our handwavey message about a change in location," she said. "We have a special activity in mind for everyone today." Her smile got a little broader. "It's high time the Reserves got to fend off an invasion, don't you think?"

Tony grinned, too. “So here it is – word comes in that we’re being invaded by trolls or zombies or giant insect gummy candies come to life. The fighter folks are on the other side of the island dealing with a clump of enemies there. We’ve got to defend the dorms. What do you do?”

Yum. Giant insect gummy candies. Karla knew how to deal with that threat.

"So, yeah, it's up to you guys to decide who does what, where, when and how," she continued. "The Support Reserves have turned the dorms into an infirmary, a child care station, and are researching the best way to defeat these things, so it's imperative none of the enemies get inside. Once you're done, Tony, Merlin--" if he showed up, and after seeing Francine in class today, Karla was starting to worry "--and I will test your defenses and see what happens. Do you save the dorms and be heroes? Or are we going to break in and devour the helpless in our giant gummy mandibles?"

"It has never not returned," Raven said. "And I will be conscious and aware in my physical body while it is gone." She closed her eyes to concentrate, sending her Soul-Self out of her body and into the air. It rose to be level with the roof of the dorms and began to circle the group below.

Raven opened her eyes. "I see what it sees and feel what it feels," she said.

"Cool! So, air reconnaissance. Hmmm, people on the ground... Telepathy and phones at the same time." Dinah tilted her head. "Maybe check the Causeway first, and get back to us if it's blocked off? Or find where they're coming in from? Then we have to figure out if magic works on them, or conventional weapons."

"I can certainly do that," Raven said, glancing upward at the shadowy-raven form. It sped off in the direction of the causeway. Raven knew it would not find anything there, for this was just play, but she enjoyed showing she was useful.

"Super." Dinah was zooming on in her head. Forgive her if she forgets to make conversational stops. "So, barricades, maybe, again, depending on the attackers, if they're not so big they'd just step over them... maybe spread out to different parts of the island in teams, with the fighty reserves, to gather intel first? Find out how many there are, if they look organized, see if we can stop them in town?" Dinah paused. "Tell me if any of this seems wrong, I'm just basing this off classes and the couple invasions I've been in."

Tara raised a hand. "M-m-m-m-" She swallowed. "Maybe there's some kind of shielding spell w-we could put around the dorms from giant gummy candies."

"Oooo," Dinah said, grinning at Tara. "You mean, specifically for them. Yes! Aaand you guys can tell us if you need materials, or..." Her invention failed her a moment, then she said, "Anything else? Like, people to stand places? Or hold stuff?"

"W-we can always use people to stand places and hold stuff," Tara said. "A lot of spells will work, uh, no matter -- no matter who says the words, as long as they're the right words."

"Really?" Dinah contemplated that, then said, "Cool. I won't feel useless around it, then. And if you need quiet or something while you guys do that, then I guess we can cover you, hunh?" She looked thoughtful. "How long do shields take to set up? And do you have to keep, um. Renewing them? Or do they just last, and last?" She really should've asked Tony and Karla about this before, but she hadn't been thinking about it then.
