Second Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Tony had a couple of pizzas and some bottles of pop out to celebrate the return of Darkest Night. He settled down on the couch to watch the vampire detective Raymond Dark and his eyes and ears in the daylight, James Taylor Grant, battle a cursed pie shop.

[Open!]

"Uther had her son executed," Merlin said, voice going a bit distant as he focused on the cursed pie. "It was the first I'd seen."

Dinah nodded understanding at that, thinking, then remembered what he'd said ages and ages ago. "The first time you saved Arthur's life." She leaned her chin on her hand, watching the screen with half her attention. "You know, even with the magic, that's pretty cool. First time someone tries to kill someone in front of you, and you step up and save them."

Merlin snorted, breaking out of whatever that was. "He was an ass, but it wasn't like I could just stand by and do nothing."

"Well, no." Dinah grinned, then smothered it a little. "But most people would've froze up, or had no idea what to do." She blinked. "What did you do? I mean. You could've been killed for helping with magic..."

"She'd put everyone to sleep already. All I did was drop the chandelier on her."

Like always.

Oh, BBC.

"That would do it."

In some ways, Merlin was a lot like Helena. You wouldn't expect it; he looked all things geeky and cheeky and harmless. But his spine was the same steel without wasting time on regrets. And, well. In the case he was describing, not a lot of other options.

"And I guess it looked like an accident when everyone woke up, hunh."

"It tends to," Merlin replied sagely. "The ropes fray easily."

"Heh." Great, now she was going to be looking at chandeliers for frayed ropes all the time. Then again, good to know. Dinah tilted her head onto her up-drawn knee, thinking. Worrying a bit. "At least when you go back, it'll be easier to protect Arthur now that he knows." The eye thing was going to be a pain for him, though.
