Magic Reserves, Wednesday Afternoon, Preserve Near The Cabins

At the reserve today there was a surplus of pies from J, GoB. So everyone could do their part in making sure no one had cursed the shop while they were away. This was a high priority, see?

"Welcome back from vacation everyone," Merlin said with a bright smile. "We hope you all had fun on your week off and are excited to be back here with us."

By 'excited' he may have meant 'not about to escape back to that camp without him'.

Karla grinned at them. Or maybe at the pies. She was grinning in their general direction and they could decide for themselves whether it was at them or the pies. "Now that we're back, it's time to really get working. Cold weather is coming in and that means we're going to have a harder time fighting off invasions. You thought fighting mutant alligators was tough? Imagine fighting them in pouring rain or hip-deep snow."

Someone might want to take Karla aside later and explain that Maryland didn't usually get hip-deep snow. On the other hand, this was Fandom.

"The best weapon in any situation is good information. Knowing exactly what we are capable of means that we can send people out into situations that we think are most capable of handling it, thereby cutting down on time, effort, and casualties. So we want to know what people can do. We've done this in limited forms before, but now we've decided to go more in depth."

Holding up his hand, Merlin let a little ball of glowy light to demonstrate some of his abilities. "Whether what you can do is offensive, defensive, or just helpful in an every day situation. Everything is welcome here."

Tony called up his scrubbing bubbles and had them clean up a piece of pie that had fallen off a plate. "Some stuff's really handy for after the battles." The bubbles started scrubbing the ground free of dirt and Tony hastily called off the spell. The bare patch of ground gave off a faint citrus scent if anyone nearby cared to notice the smell "We're going to do demos of our abilities and you guys can ask questions. Then, starting next week, we want three people each week to show off their powers until we're all familiar with each others' talents. If you want to volunteer, let us know."

Dinah was there after work and classes, and yay. PIE. This really was the week for talking about abilities though, wasn't it?

Right. So Francine... would be having pie and keeping her mouth shut, because Hi, I'm Francine and I can have vague psychic episodes that might show me something useful maybe, but not on cue and I might not realize what it meant until your head is already in the minotaur's mouth lacked something as a useful contribution.

Leda had come for the usual reasons, but she was also looking for Karla. She missed her sort of almost girlfriend. And ooh! Pie!

"Pumpkin Pie! Greatest of mortal inventions." she grinned. "Along with a lot of other things they've invented. But not sliced bread. That was us."

Tara was there, and grateful she didn't have a watch. If she did, she'd be checking it every five minutes to see how soon she was meeting Kennedy.

"Hi everyone," Karla said, feeling the tiniest bit nervous even though this was something she'd explained many times. Still, there was a difference between explaining her skills twenty times to one person and explaining it once to twenty people. Or something. "In my world, anyone who is a member of the Blood--my people--has basic Craft. Women are witches by birth, whether they where a dark Jewel, a light Jewel or no Jewel at all. I have basic Craft, which means I can make a variety of shields, I can create energy blasts, I can call things in and vanish them--" she demonstrated with her laptop "--I can float things like with telekinesis--" she floated a piece of pie over, because, dammit, she was going to enjoy her demonstration "--I can solidify air to walk on it, or make solid things less solid so I can pass through them." Yes, that was the best explanation she could come up with. She called her laptop in again and thrust her arm through the middle of it to wave at the crowd. "I can also create witchlight and witchfire and I can communicate telepathically over far distances."

Okay. That was pretty exhaustive. Fortunately, her castes required less explanations and she could pretty much just blitz through those. "Every Blood female is a witch, but some of us belong to inborn castes as well. I'm a Healer, a Black Widow, and a Queen, which means that I can Heal the body, mind, and heart. I can also heal the land if it's...sick, or dying. Uh, because it can be. Sick, I mean."

That sounded dumb.

"I can also weave illusions and tell the future. And the past. Though that's all really complicated and needs a bit of prep time. And I think that's pretty much it," she said, giving them her best unsure-but-game smile. "Err...any questions?"

"Okay," Tony said when the mun finally got caught up with herself. "Uh, let's see. I've got this Powershot which'll turn a demon to ash instantly, but it takes a lot of power and I can only use it a couple of times a day. But I'm working on that. I can heal myself but not anyone else. I can call things to my hand..." Wow, he was not impressing anyone with this stuff, was he? "And I've got a laptop full of spells. All kinds of stuff."

"I will volunteer to show my gifts next week," Raven offered The Fearless Leaders. "Though I will not be able to demonstrate my ability to heal unless someone is injured, which would hopefully not be the case."
