Arthur not being about meant that Zack pretty much had free reign over the reserves today, and so the first thing that people might notice would be the table that he'd set out with cookies, donuts, muffins, and juice. He might never be able to get away with it again, he was going to take it where he could get it!

Of course, no Arthur also meant that Zack was kind of winging it, with today's actual content. Fear.

"So, since most of what we've been doing lately is kind of limited to discussion, today we're going to try something completely different!" Because that would totally work well. "Physical tests of patience, endurance, and teamwork! I want each of you to grab a partner, someone you don't know all that well, if possible. And then come here, get a piece of rope, stand side-by-side, and tie your two closest legs together."

Yes. This was Zack's idea of a test of endurance. Be happy he hadn't pulled out the potato sacks.

"And then I want you to run from here to the wall of the dorm building and back, as fast as you can go, without falling on your faces! It's harder than it looks!"

This was why Zack was not often left in charge.

Tahiri ran her fingers lightly over the back of his neck. "So I'll kick people out of there if I have to."

"You're badass," Ben replied with a tiny, slightly forced smile. "It's past time everyone knew it."

"Are you kidding? I think the only Jedi here I could beat in a spar is Zayne." And that kind of felt like kicking a nek puppy.

"There are people other than Jedi at the school," Ben said in the tones of someone imparting Great Wisdom.

"And half of them could still beat me," Tahiri replied mildly. She knew he'd probably try to argue the point; she was banking on his competitiveness to help get his mind off whatever was so awful he wasn't ready to talk about it yet.

"That's not true," Ben said, glancing around at the reserves. "You could take out half the people here."

"And the other half?" From the look on her face, Tahiri wasn't so convinced. But also being a bit of a brat.

"I'd take out the other half," Ben said with a quick grin.

"Because you're astral. Guess we make a good team that way," Tahiri said, moving to ruffle his hair.

They looked so intimidating right now, too. Quake with fear or something, reserves.

"We're an amazing team," Ben said, reaching to link her fingers through his.

Tahiri squeezed his hand gently. "Lucky for the reserves we're not actually trying to take them all down."

"We'd probably get detention for that anyway," Ben mused.

"Before or after your grandfather yells at us?" Tahiri assumed that would be a given.

"Both, and possibly during," Ben said with a smile. "Can you imagine his detentions?"

"Yes." Her imagination might fall a little short here. "As long as I'm only imagining, and not in one."

"Definitely," Ben agreed. "I don't think he'd cut us any slack for being there, even if it was through an office paperwork screwup."

"You think he'd be harder on us than anyone else?" Tahiri asked thoughtfully. "He'd probably be pretty rough on me."

"I think Granddad holds the Jedi to a different standard than he holds everyone else," Ben said.

Also Tahiri was pretty sure he didn't trust her. "Which is understandable, but still no fun for us. You know what? I think we should hit the ball pit later."

"I think that sounds like the best thing I've heard all day," Ben replied.

She grinned down at him and ran a finger across his cheek. "One of my better ideas, then?"

Especially since even ice cream would make him ill today. "Definitely," he said, leaning his head up to kiss her.

"Mm. Go me, then." Tahiri had to maneuver her head a little to kiss him from this angle without bumping his nose. "Love you, Ben."

"Love you more," he murmured.

"Bet you don't," Tahiri told him, nipping lightly at his lip for emphasis.
