Kate needed to get her mind off useless things, so Tuesday morning she finally grabbed some stuff and headed down to the gym, hoping it was early enough for no one else to be there.

Finding the gym empty, she headed to the dance studio. She wasn’t going to do anything too complicated; this was the first time she’d done this in months. Just basic barre work. Reintroducing herself to an old hobby, seeing how much her body remembered, and what it could still do. Definitely no pointe work yet.

The second Kate started putting on her soft sole shoes, she knew this was going to be good for her. She could feel herself slipping into a routine, something she’d been familiar with for years.

It made her feel safe, in a way. Not everything was different here. Not everything had to be.

And when she eventually got to her actual exercises, the feeling only got stronger. This was something she knew, something to hold on to; something for her body to do and her mind to concentrate on. And it didn’t matter if she didn’t do everything perfectly. She was only doing this for herself.
