It was a vaguely sedate Hayley that was crashed out on a couch. She was watching a movie on the TV about evil clowns from space.

She pouted at it.

"...no wonder people don't like clowns," she said.

She did have a plate of store-bought chocolate chip cookies out, in case anyone wandered in. It was only fair to offer food, right?

"Is...is that a clown?!" Jack asked. He heard the noise while wandering, and... "What the hell?!"

"It's a movie, silly," Hayley said. "Ain't ya ever seen one before?"

"I have," said the lad originally from the 60's, "but not one about...that."

Which is why he scored a cookie and some couch space. "This looks awful. Did I miss any of it?"

"...well, yeah," Hayley said. "But I think you already understand the important parts."

"What, that clowns are evil?" he asked, staring at the screen. "I think I knew that already, but...wow."

Hayley frowned. "Clowns aren't evil. That's... that's a mean stereotype!"

"Well, not all, just the scary ones. I mean, look at them. You telling me you wouldn't run screaming from a clown?"

The video sided with Jack on the "clowns = evil" side of the board.

"From these ones, yeah," Hayley said. "But they're not real."

"I hope not. All the other things that happen here? I don't want to come up against clowns," he admitted.

"What the hell are you watching?" Elle asked as she wandered into the common room. "Do I even want to know?"

"...probably not," Hayley said, looking over at Elle and smiling. "We can change it if you want."

"Naah, it's okay," Elle said, plopping down on a corner of the couch that wasn't taken up by the other tiny blonde in the room. "I just wanted to make sure I really was hearing some fucked up movie about clowns."

"That's what it is," Hayley said. "Can't say I like it, though. And I like clowns."

"It... makes no sense," Elle decided. "And I've only been watching it for like two minutes."

"Yeah," Hayley said. "I mean, why would there even be clowns in space? And why aren't they funny?"

"And even aside from that whole clowns in space thing... why are they killer ones? Does the movie even explain that or is it just kind of like 'hey, here, have some killer clowns' and that's that?"

"Clowns are supposed to be fun and nice," Hayley said. "They make you happy and feel good about everything."

"Or at the very least, they're not supposed to be all scary and homicidal." Even she knew that, and her experience with clowns was nonexistent.

Jack waved half-heartedly at the newcomer. Maybe she'd not have some weird thing about clowns.

Elle gave him an equally half-hearted wave in return. Hey, why not?

"What's your thoughts on clowns?" he asked.

Hey, never know. Now.

"... why?"

"Just wondering," he said, nodding to the movie.

"Well... those ones are just fucked up," Elle said, also nodding to the movie. "But I guess in general clowns aren't so bad."

"Good to know," he said. Maybe he should stick to safer topics like the weather or politics.
