Homecoming activities aside, Alex really hadn't made an effort since the break to be social. Whether that was just laziness or something else, he didn't know but he was actually out of his room on the roof tonight. Please, like he'd be anywhere else. Unless it was pouring down rain or snowing, he was going to spend time up there, smoking.

Tonight, he'd brought a book up there with him. He'd actually had the book for awhile but he'd kept it hidden and away from prying eyes for the time being. Really, he still had no intention of getting into medicine but, somehow, he'd ended up doing so in some other life. That sort of thing tended to pique a guy's curiosity.

So, he was out there reading a book on medicine. And smoking. Hey, he wasn't a doctor yet.

Didi didn't go up to the roof all that often, but she wanted fresh air tonight.

"Are you up here every time I come up here?" she asked Alex, pleasantly enough.

"Probably," he said, not looking up but giving her a brief wave with one hand. "Spend a lot of time up here so I don't make my room smell like smoke."

"You're nice to your roommate," Didi said. "How are you, Alex? Good Homecoming?"

"It's totally going to be dark this time next week," Rose said as she came out onto the roof. Hellos were for other people or something. "I dunno what to think about that."

Griff was one of the few who got that nice side ad even still, Alex wasn't always that nice.

"Wasn't bad," he said, glancing up this time and shrugging. "I'm not much for school sponsored crap but that one wasn't bad. You? You get a crown or anything like that?"

He'd been gone before that announcement.

"Wait, what?" Alex asked, distracted out of his reading and furrowing his brown in confusion. Time changes were not something he kept up with. "Eclipse?"

Didi shook her head. "Emma Frost got it for our grade. I'll live. I had a date that went really well."

"Yes, Alex,' Rose deadpanned. "There's gonna be a massive eclipse all next week. No sun at all."

Didi turned from where she was looking out over the island. "It has to happen every year, right?"

"Ah, I'll have to tease her about that," Alex said, mentally noting that fact. Maybe he'd even get her a little scepter. "And I didn't have a date though I did drag Griff along so he wouldn't stay in our room all night. Building up good karma so I don't get fucked over in the future."

Aaaaaand Rose would be getting a dirty look for that one. It melted away fairly quickly though.

"Shut up, it's the first thing that came to mind," he groused. "I don't fucking keep up with these things."

"Unless you go to Australia every winter," Rose pointed out.

She grinned at him, way too amused. "Dude, if we have an eclipse next week now, it's all on you."

There was a beat then. "You know Saturday's Halloween, right?"

"Yep," he said, sticking his cigarette in his mouth so he could shut his book and tuck it away behind him. "You getting all dressed up like a fairy princess?"

"Nah, I lent my wings to Griff," Rose said lightly. "What about you? Henry VIII?"

"I have no idea if Jaime went," Didi realized. She'd have to ask him. "... which makes me sound kind of awful."

She smiled a little. "So, do you think Griff had a better time than he would have had sitting in the room?"

"If you stay in one place," Didi amended. "Why, are you headed to Australia?"

Alex snorted and shook his head. "I don't dress up. I don't even know if I'm going. Went like once as a kid, don't see the need to start now."

Though, now, he really wanted to see Griff in fairy wings.

"That depends on if he had any of the punch after it was spiked," Alex said, smirking. If he hadn't well, Griff was just going to have to get drunk another night. "He's funny when he's drunk. A lot less shy, a lot more...outgoing."

"Fuck that, I'm not going trick-or-treating," Rose said, making a face. "I'm not 12. But Caritas or something on the mainland has to be open."

"It's warm there, right?" Rose said. "I'd so be there if I could."

No, she really wouldn't.

"That mean you are dressing up?" he wondered curiously. "Gonna give me a hint?"
