Behind The Dorms (And Beyond), Tuesday Afternoon

"Hello, reserves. I see you've all managed to keep it together in my absence," Arthur announced, "Something for which I apologise. This week, we will be returning to an old, tried strategy with the reserves, which is the mapping and exploration of the island. Obviously, we've already made our maps, but some of you have taken only to specific areas, or been so diligent little was left for anyone else," not looking at certain parties, thank you. "Because of this, I think freshing up our knowledge and experience might be a good idea."

Yes, at this point it had to be pointed out that Arthur was well aware of what Zack had made them do last week. There were also no cookies. Just water. An alarming amount of canteens of water, to be exact.

"We are going to hike around the island," he announced, "Get a feel for our coasts, keep an eye open for any oddities, and share the knowledge amongst ourselves. After all, we have to be prepared. Take a canteen - and I will not see any of you pausing to refill it if you wind up being a glutton - find a friend if need be, and get to it."

If anyone had been capable of going to Camelot and asking him, a certain Sir Dinadan might have been able to inform the collective reserves that this was exactly the kind of thing Arthur put people through when he had a hunch they didn't hate him hard enough, and also congratulations, this was going to keep happening if people kept being nice to him.

"And Zack? No cookies. You're with me."

It was possible Sir Dinadan was right.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

"Living? But just standing there, frozen? Like they were under a spell?" Dinah asked, curious and confused. "Did they notice you?"

"No. They are... out of time. Only part of them is present in this reality."

"How can you tell?" Dinah hurried to catch up, then hastily added, "Not that I'm doubting you, but. Seriously, how is that detectable? And can they be freed?" Really, she had no idea how the demon-king thing worked, but she was willing to believe Illyria wasn't making it up. For one thing, why would she bother? She barely noticed other people were there, it seemed like.

Illyria jerked one bony shoulder up, less a shrug than a pivot-point for the swing of her neck. "Once I could walk between the walls of time. Now that power is gone, but I can still sense it within them."

"Whoa," Dinah muttered, impressed again in spite of herself. Walk through the walls of time? "Wow." She took another picture, getting part of Illyria's arm and face in the frame, but also a reference point for the path. "They'd be, um, a good reference point then. If they're stuck in time and can't move." She frowned, thinking of what Illyria had said about that power being gone. Ask? Don't ask? "Will you get that power back, you think?"

Of all that had been asked of her since she came here, no one had ever asked that. Illyria seemed to draw in on herself for a moment, looking someplace else entirely, before answering, "The power I had was too much to be contained in this body. It was sent elsewhere to save my life. I don't know if it can ever be returned."

"Oh," Dinah said, subdued. I'm sorry would seem to be the obvious thing to say, but this was Illyria. She might take that wrong. Anything cheerful or encouraging, when Dinah had no clue what she was talking about, likewise. Finally she settled for, "I hope it can eventually. Without hurting you, I mean. Losing stuff sucks." She still didn't feel like she really understood Illyria very well, but she was way too intimidating to follow up on that too hard.
