2nd Floor Common Room - Thursday Evening

Them hockey players just happened to be on the television again when George  - and Beka-the-terrier - wandered down to the Common Room.   It was a shock, really, and totally not planned at all.

Beka flopped down on the couch, covering her eyes with her paws.  George didn't much mind that as it meant for once she wasn't trying to bite him for something she'd decided he was doin' wrong.  Being bitten would have distracted him from watching the little men skate around the ice.

"Do you have a team you do root for? It's past stuff for me. How far back are you from?"

"Twenty some years," Jennifer said. "And I pretty much go for every LA team."

"I didn't know LA had a team. You from there too?"

"I am," Jennifer said. "Born and raised. My dad's a county sheriff."

"Sheriffs are kind of police officers, aren't they? My Dad used to be a cop. LAPD. I grew up there too."

"They are," Jennifer said. "Cool. Guess that's something we really have in common."

"Except the big time difference. It's probably not the same timeline either." He looked thoughtful for a moment. "In case it is? When 2004 rolls around, don't be in town."

"Do you have anyone that turns big and green in your LA?" Jennifer asked. "If the answer is no, then we're definitely not from the same timeline."

Kyle shrugged. "If there was, there's not anymore. I wouldn't know."

"Something really bad happened?" Jennifer said.

"LA's a wasteland now," Kyle nodded. "The radiation's gone in most places, but there's not a lot left. Mostly rubble and ruins."

"Oh no," Jennifer said. "Nuclear war? That's awful."

Kyle shrugged and nodded. "What's LA like when you're from?"

"Vibrant," Jennifer said. "Though we seem to be having some... supervillains and stuff popping up."

"What makes a supervillain more super than a regular villain?"

"Super powers," Jennifer said. "Though it's a good thing there are people who are heroes and have them, too."

"I'm pretty sure my LA didn't have any of that," Kyle decided. Dad would have told him, or Derek. "So I guess we're not from the same timeline. Trust me, that's a good thing. Do you know any superheroes?"

"I... sort of," Jennifer said. "I know someone who hopes to be one."

"Do they have training for that or do you just go do it?"

"I'm not sure," Jennifer said. "But I'm getting a lot of training here at school."

"A lot," Jennifer said. "I've made good friends and keep learning more about... just about everything each week."
