Third Floor Common Room- Thursday evening

Jaina had decided to go home for the weekend, and at the moment, she was packed, caught up on everything she had to do for the moment. She came out to the common room, intent on dinner, then gave up after a quick search of the fridge and just ordered pizza. Really, she was going to spend a while eating military rations and something like gruel. She was going for something good tonight, even if there was way too much for just her.

And once channel surfing landed her on a Mythbusters rerun, she decided this was a pretty good way to spend a night before she had to go be all militaristic and professional.

"Yo," Kennedy said, wandering in like this was her common room. "That pizza for sharing?"

Ben had been out for a wander when he noticed a familiar presence. He ducked back downstairs and returned with a box. Inside was a slightly heavy flight helmet and a joystick.

He held it out to Jaina. "Happy belated birthday," he said, blushing.

"As long as there's still some there, go for it," she said, waving vaguely towards the pizza. "I should probably have gotten something smaller, but I think that goes against common room law."

Jaina smiled as she took the box. "You didn't have to do that," she told him.

"I would have been on time if I could keep track of how fast your calendar keeps moving," he said. "I'm sorry."

"There's food, it's a common room, it's fair game, right?" Kennedy snagged a slice in each hand and sprawled out in a chair. "Hey, are they blowing things up on this one?"

Mythbusters was one of her favorite things about living in the future.

"Don't worry about it. Not only is my time going kind of weird, but I didn't really tell anyone," she assured him. "Can I open this here?"

Yakko ran into the common room and suddenly stopped.

"It's that time again!" After a brief pause, he continued, as if addressing someone who wasn't there. "No, it's time to learn the day's lesson! And to find out what it is, we turn to... The Wheel of Morality!" Yakko motioned towards the door, where a large wheel with 'The Wheel of Morality' written on it in huge letters drifted in.

"Wheel of Morality, turn, turn, turn," Yakko recited as he spun the wheel. "Tell us the lesson that we should learn." As the spinning wheel slowed down and landed on the number 2, a sheet of paper was printed from a slot on the side. Yakko went to his next line as he grabbed the sheet of paper. "Moral Number Two. And the moral of today's story is... Where there's a will, there's a bunch of relatives arguing in a lawyer's office."

Yakko shrugged, darted out of the room, and the wheel disappeared out into the hallway a moment later.

"Probably," Jaina said. "I guess it's the YouTube special? I have no idea what they're doing on any of this." Because Jaina was not cool and did not spend her life online.

"It's not going to explode," Ben assured her.

Jaina watched this, head tilted, and for a moment after he left, she just frowned.

"That actually makes a lot of sense," she said.

"That doesn't stop being strange," Ben commented as Yakko ran off.

"I haven't figured out YouTube yet. I'm not into all that techie stuff," Kennedy said around a mouthful of pizza. "Especially when it hasn't been invented yet for me."

Kennedy, no, don't check her out.

"If it was I'd have to ask if you've been hanging around Wraiths lately," she said, opening it up and smiling when she saw what was inside. "Aww, thank you."

"What the hell?" Those were the first words out of Kennedy's mouth as soon as she was done staring. Which took a while, for the record. "God, this place is freaking crazy."

"Ender helped me with some of the programming," Ben said. "It's a portable flight sim. I mean, not as good as the one Granddad has, obviously, but..." he trailed off. "I thought you'd like it."

On the bright side, Jaina probably wouldn't even think that's what she was doing. "Ahh, you're one of the past dwellers, huh?"

"I think this is going to come in really handy," Jaina said, a little stunned. "This is really astral, Ben. And now I have something to do in transit when I'm home!" Seriously, this was an issue. There was a lot of down time.

Sadly, it was kind of hard to stop her either way.

"Not that far. Just ten years, but enough to have to do some serious upgrading to my toys," Kennedy replied. "Not in a geeky way, though, 'cause please."

"You don't spend it watching old Face Loran holos?" he teased.

"There's nothing wrong with upgrading in a geeky way," Jaina told her. "It's all brand new to me." Though she really only loved her iPhone, and that didn't get used as much these days.

Jaina rolled her eyes. "I'd only say yes to that if I was trying to get him off my back," she said. "Thank Ender for me too."

"So I shouldn't have renewed that fan club membership?" Ben replied.

[brat_inslayage]

"Sure," Kennedy agreed, and wiped her hand off on the knee of her jeans to dig her iPhone out of her pocket and start up another Text Twist game. Stupid addictive thing. "If that's your thing. It's not mine."

"Hey," she added after a second, "I've seen you around the gym on Sundays, right?"

"You can do whatever you want, as long as you're using it. I won't judge." She paused. "Okay, I'll judge, but I won't tell you I'm judging you."
