"Okay, guys," Zack said, stepping to the forefront of the Reserves meeting and grinning, his hands on his hips. "Today we're going to follow the lead of the Magic Reserves, and start focusing on sharing the more specific talents of the people in this group. But with a twist! While plenty of the stuff that they have over in the Magic corps is specific to just the person giving the demonstrations, the benefit to working physically is that plenty of the skills that each of us have can be taught to one another! Maybe you've got proficiency in a weapon that nobody else here seems to know, or else you've got awesome tracking skills and think that we could stand to learn how to use them, too! Or you might have something as simple as a training exercise that you've seen put to use back home that you think we could benefit from, here. If you have something to share with the group, I'm sure we'd all be thankful that you offered up the time to teach us!"

Zack, for example, would teach the group the fine art of smuggling cookies into serious meetings of an almost militaristic nature. The trick, of course, was to leave them in his pockets and give them to people who asked nicely.

And Arthur would be onto him eventually. He was just keeping an eye out. "So if you are prepared to share, step up to us this week. You may bring your own tale to the front this week, give us a demonstration, and please come up to have a word with us if you would like to demonstrate some time in the coming weeks, or would be willing to offer your services in training, or leading the reserves through a training exercise. We are here to learn from each other as best we can, and so each other is the best resource we've got."

He gave a nod to those gathered, then took a step back. Only to take a step back later to give his own round-up.

That would be good. Although interesting if she didn't....

"Woo! Any time after tomorrow is good," Dinah said, looking gleeful. "I've learned new things since the last time we did this that I can use. Well, if we're both wearing padding," she had to add.

That made Tahiri flinch -- not because it was an uncomfortable topic, but because Riina had some choice things to say about the padding.

. . . that sort of made it an uncomfortable topic, didn't it?

"That could be useful. Let's see if you can surprise me with something new."

Dinah caught the flinch, and frowned, wondering. But here and now wasn't the time or place to ask. "Gotta survive and advance, right? More training with Azula and Professor Atreides, so..." Not to mention the airwalking, thanks to Karla."How're other things going?" she asked casually, then grinned over at Ben. "And the ice cream brigade?"

"They're --" Tahiri kept thinking back to last Friday's conversation with Tara. "They're going. Training, news from home is still awful, but there's ice cream and it all sort of balances out."

Sort of. In a weird way. Balance might be a big thing for her right now.

"That's cool," Dinah said, reassured. "Sorry that the news from home sucks, though. Do you think they'll be sending you on another mission soon, now that you're a Knight?"

"I keep waiting for them to," Tahiri admitted. Honestly, she was surprised they hadn't for a while. "I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they call me."

"I hope it doesn't mess up your winter holidays, though. You should get to ennjoy school break as much as anyone, without it all being about the war." Dinah shook her head. "Or Finals, even if all the teachers here would be fine with make-up exams, probably."

Tahiri smiled wryly. "Well, I missed a week of classes this last time, but the first one, I missed the cruise. So the odds are about even."

Focusing on the exams part of it was a good way not to focus on And Tahiri could get killed out there too hard. There was no way to believe Dinah would get to graduate before she got called up again, though. "Yeeeah. About the same odds as us not getting a ridiculous invasion again.... So does Thursday work for you, or is Friday better?"

Tahiri didn't think about that possibility, or maybe it was just that she'd lived too close to the possibility for too long to pay it much mind. "Friday," she decided. "I'm a little booked for Thursday, but Friday's all clear."

"Friday. Awesome. Bring weapons, I have some ideas," Dinah said, with one last grin.

Up went Tahiri's eyebrows. "Should I have a bad feeling about this?"

Dinah grinned. "Probably."
