Dorm roof - Early afternoon

There was the slightest of chances Beka's been spoiling the pigeons this week. They'd had to get through without the extra feed for two weeks and Beka swore Shimmer looked more hungry than usual. She crumbled some of the bread from her bag and scattered it in front of her, watching the gathered pigeons launch for it in a flurry of wings and feathers.

"You almost ate the entire bag, you loobies," she chided them. She wiped off the crumbs on her jeans afore she reached out to scratch the sleeping Pounce behind his ear. She had her diary laid open in her lap. She'd at least caught up with everything now, but her reports weren't. Writing about turning into a Terrier was easy, she was certain her Lord would see the humor of it. Twas the part about George Cooper that she couldn't find the words for.

She glanced up at him and nodded. "Yes. Tis strange and easier not to think too much about it." It was hard not to however and she'd so many questions, but she couldn't bring herself to ask George for answers.

"Is he nice?" Jonas asked. "Your...relative, I mean."

Beka laughed. "He's trouble. He's more likely to get hobbled by a Dog than ever to be one," she said. It worried her. "But he's not a bad cove. Just got his head full of himself."

"That's very strange," he said, breathing out a laugh and shaking his head. "And here I thought a professor trusting me to take care of something like a newchild was the strangest thing to happen lately."

"If it helps, I was a real dog for two weeks too," she made a face. "I must have vexed the Trickster God."

"You were?" Jonas frowned again but this time it was due mostly to not having known that and thus, not helping. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize that happened."

She glanced up at him, not understanding why he was apologizing. "It wasn't your fault. Unless you put sommat in my food to turn me into a terrier."

"No, it's not that," he said, shaking his head. "I would have come to visit you if I'd realized. That's all."

She smiled. "Next time I'll try to let you know," she promised. Honestly, she was more hoping there'd not be a next time.

"Did you have an interesting week while you were changed?" Jonas asked. "Was it strange to see things from a different perspective?"

"Twas very strange," she chuckled. "Tis hard to explain. You hear better and everything smells different. Tastes different even."

"Did you have to eat..." Jonas trailed off, face contorting painfully, "...dog food?"

"No," she said instantly, her eyes widening. "I'd have bitten George's ankles if he'd tried."

Jonas laughed, relaxing quickly. "That's good. So, you did almost everything you normally do, just in a different shape?"

"Didn't get to feed the pigeons, but I did go to class," she agreed. "I much prefer on being the other kind of Dog."

"I think I would feel the same," Jonas said, nodding. "I'm glad the transformation didn't affect you negatively and that you didn't have to bite anyone."

"I'm glad I'm back to being me," she laughed softly and shook her head. "So did you have a more normal couple of weeks?"

"Besides this," he said, nodding towards Sarah, "yes, I have. I tasted something called a mocha for the first time. It had chocolate in it but it wasn't like ice cream."

"Bet you have ice cream that tastes like it," she teased.

"I haven't looked but I'm sure you're right," he laughed. "It wasn't bad. Kate, the girl who shared it with me, said it's a form of caffeine."

"Is it better than the coffee they have?" she asked. "I've not yet got a taste for it."

"I haven't tried regular coffee," he said, shaking his head, "so I wouldn't know. I tend to stick to things like water, milk and juices. I haven't really felt a need to try coffee."

"Tis bitter," she said. "I much prefer sommat else too."

She watched the babe in his arms. "Do you need help with aught?"

"Always," he said and laughed. "I'm overwhelmed with this. I'm worried and nervous and confused. So, yes, please."

"Tis a machine," she assured him. "The worst that'll happen is that you'll get a bad grade." It was easy to say when her life didn't depend on her grades. "We could get some milk from the common room."
