Third Floor Common Room, Sunday Afternoon

Today, Kate was still feeling extremely lazy, but had made it all the way down the hall and into the common room. Might as well make an attempt to be social, even if she mainly came there to do something about her craving for coffee.

While she waited for the coffee to be ready, she fiddled with her phone, messaging back and forth with her brother. They were currently in the process of coming up with some extremely colorful and insulting ways in which to describe a certain idiot teacher at his school.

It was making her smile.

Robin, having recently returned from Florida for Thanksgiving, was on the lookout for fellow students. He'd missed them, if not the colder weather up here.

"Hi Kate! Did you have a good holiday?"

"Hi Robin," Kate smiled. "If good includes lazy, then yes, I did. You?"

Robin could see how it could, as long as it was enjoyable for her. "Uh huh. I went home to visit my family. They love my stories about Fandom."

Kate shot him a wry smile. "I think mine probably would too, if I could tell them about any of the stuff that goes on around here."

"You don't think they'd believe you?"

"It's not that. It's... complicated," she shrugged. "I just can't tell them."

Robin shrugged. "Okay." Maybe they'd freak at the stuff that happened here. "So, I guess they don't know that you know a talking frog?" he giggled.

Kate chuckled. "No, they don't. Just like they don't know that nice guy I brought home to visit is from the future. ...Well, my brother does. But he doesn't know about you."

"Oh which guy from the future? And what year is it back home for you?"

"Leto. You know him? And 2009. You're... from the '80s, right?"

"I know Leto." Robin nodded. "I'm from 1986 Or 87 if the mun has his math wrong."

"I don't know why that feels weirder to me than Leto being from somewhere around 20 000 years into the future," Kate said, smiling a little.

"It's easier for your mind to comprehend the difference because it's not as big a one?" That had almost made sense in his head.

"Something like that, probably," she shrugged. "20 000 is just too much for my brain. It's meaningless."

"I can't really get my brain around it either. Being in 2009 is enough for me to grasp. Back in the 80's we still think we'll have colonies on the moon and flying cars."

Kate snickered. "Yeah, not so much with those, at least not in this version of the world."

"Though I guess a lot of the stuff we do have would have seemed like science fiction back then anyway."
