Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

"Afternoon, reservists," Arthur started, most of his idle attention set more on his quarterstaff than the group. "Two matters today. First of all, we're going to discuss the different uses of our weapons on the two sections of the island. Second of all..." He cast a look across the crowd, "Mat is either going to show us how to wield a quarterstaff properly, or get his backside thoroughly trounced. Let's wait and see how that goes, eh?"

He gave the staff a solid twirl. "As you know, the newer section of the island is a lot more open than the narrow streets of the old," he said, "Which means our tactics must vary based on which end. The old part of town is more defensible than the new; the new allows for too much space for others to come at us, while we could feasibly barricade ourselves in the old for a nearly unlimited amount of time."

Another flip of the quarterstaff. "On the new, we have the advantage of greater visibility, and those of us who use weapons of greater range might find it easier to cope. There are many possibilities; I'd like you all to discuss and offer your views on the use of our space. Taking into account that the causeway is directly connected to the old end."

He let one end of the staff hit the ground, perching against it. "Also, if any of you still feel like demonstrating, you know where to find us. Mat? You're up."

The fact that this was going to consist of two guys beating on each other with sticks hadn't escaped Kennedy's notice, no, and she was leaning against a tree with a sandwich in hand, looking a little eyerolly and a little smirky and a lot dubious all at once.

Free food, Gabrielle, yeah, pretty much a given. She'd be watching this bout with interest, given this was her own weapon of choice, so no hanging back at the edge of the group for her.

Sticks weren't Illyria's weapon of choice, but any weapon in the hands of a skilled user could yield a good fight, so she was a little less of a hanger-back today as she curiously picked apart her sandwich, looking forward to the display.

The Clinic's kind of on the edge of old town there. So's Caritas," Dinah said, thinking aloud. "So they have those couple places that are good for getting civilians to safety."

Both hands wrapped around her own staff hi, not dirty and leaning on it, Gabrielle stood near the edge of the designated space, watching intently.

George wasn't much for organised military activities, but he wasn't going t'be missing a chance to cheer Mat on in kicking Arthur's noble ass. (Which part of the body was the 'noble ass' was a different story)

Which was why he was there watching. And possibly making bets if anyone was up for it.

"Go, Mat! Go, Arthur!" Dinah didn't really care who won, although seeing Arthur get beaten at something would be a first. "Duck!" Indiscriminate cheering was also amusingly distracting.

Leto was here too, and not particularly caring about staff comparisons. That didn't mean he wasn't going to enjoy watching the fight. Or be around if people wanted to talk to him.

Zack, also there, was paying close attention to the demonstration, and pondering getting a staff for himself that was bigger than Arthur's existent one. Just because he could totally lift more.

I blame the roadtrip, and the ensuing Fandom confusion about whether we ship love the boys or the boys who play the boys more.
