Girls with Guns [Wednesday after classes]

Most of the time Triela found spending time on the shooting range to be quite good at focusing her attention. Not that focus was often a problem. Training, inclination, and Conditioning all combined to keep her from becoming too distracted most of the time. Which, really, was a good thing on the range since guns were not toys.

But she was still distracted by her most recent trip home, and that meant that while she was at the range and needing to focus, she was obviously distracted. She showed up early, which wasn't unusual, but then she leaned back against the wall and stared off into space. No special activity, or even tea today.

Unless someone else brought them, which would be cool.

Dinah used one of the practice 9mm to carefully shoot the targets, going for the bullseye this week, and doing better.

"Hey, Triela." Dinah came in after Gremlin Class, smirking a little. "How's it going?"

Algren was there, mingling.

Er. Supervising.

Something of the sort. It had been entirely too long since he'd fired off a gun of his own, and so he'd brought his pistol, and was idly cleaning it while he waited for the students to get themselves organized.

Triela blinked. Then shook her head and smiled slightly. "Hey, Dinah. Not bad." Just... distracted.

Dinah looked around a little surprised, then went to get protective gear. "No demos today? Nothing extra?" Everyone could have a slow week, but odd for it to be Triela.

"Um..." Triela frowned thoughtfully. "I guess I could come up with something." But she didn't sound like her heart was in it.

"Naaah, it's okay, I'm just surprised. You finally run out of ideas?" Dinah teased, checking the ammo on her gun.

Triela snorted. "No. I guess I just had other stuff on my mind." Had, have... whatever.

"Yeah?" Dinah asked, mildly interested. "Finals, invasions, boys, home...?" Fifty bucks on home, minus several million on boys, but it'd be fun to be wrong!

Triela may have been distracted, but not so distracted that she didn't watch the adult supervision with a weapon she hadn't seen him use before. It was always best, in her experience, to have a full appraisal of the skills of any adults nearby.

"Boys?" Triela repeated with a quirked eyebrow. She had no problems with boys!

Leto didn't count.

She shook her head. "The trip home last weekend. The Agency just picked up a new girl."

"I live in hope for you," Dinah told her with a grin, then said, "Oh. Someone new to take care of?" Since that's what Triela did with all the others.

"Sort of..." Triela sighed. "But she's taller than me. And looks older." She made a face. "It's weird."

Of course Triela was still the most mature, the most experienced, but... she was used to looking the part, too.

When Algren did get around to fire it, he started almost deliberately slowly, yes. It had, after all, been a while, and he still had nagging shadows of injuries that served, for the most part, just to annoy him.

But by the time he had to re-load, he'd fired nothing but bulls-eyes, and the next round was far, far quicker, and a fair deal more confident.

He wasn't about to miss his mark any time soon, no.

"Ohhhh." Dinah totally got that. She didn't play up her height a lot, but yes, she did like being one of the tallest, if not the tallest girl at school. And hte older thing. "Hunh. How old is she? And do you like her otherwise?"

Triela nodded in silent approval. Not that she suspected Algren was all tied up in knots hoping for it, or anything, but it was always nice to know that someone who was competent was in charge.

"Oh, she's not bad," which was pretty close to a compliment. "And I think she's probably fifteen or sixteen. Something like that, anyway."

She scowled and muttered "Her handler, on the other hand."

So she'd definitely look a lot more adult than Triela, who looked thirteen or fourteen without make-up or her hair done. "You know you can totally work the age thing if you use the make-up we got you. And do your hair differently." She tilted her head, sliding a cartridge into her sidearm. "What's wrong with her handler?"

"I... don't know," Triela shrugged, apparently ignoring the make-up suggestion in favor of focusing on Petra's handler. "He's... slippery." She was used to understanding the handlers. Well, maybe not Hilshire, but... this was different.

"Slippery how?" Dinah asked, frowning. "An agenda, or something? Or just really hard to read?"

"Definitely hard to read... maybe an agenda." Triela shrugged and sighed. "He smiles way too much."
