So, it was December. That had been obvious enough when Alex had woken up to find his room littered with tiny Christmas trees. Never one to be all about Christmas, he'd rounded them up and shoved them in Griff's bed. Out of sight, out of mind.

Of course, coming down to the common room proved no better. There were Christmas trees here and there too and they made Alex scowl. He ignored them for the most part, only paying them attention to toss them off the couch so he could flop down and sprawl out. Now, he just needed to find something to watch that wasn't a Christmas movies.

Seriously, he didn't want to watch sappy love stories or old men learning suddenly having a change of heart all because they got haunted. Pass. The television wasn't being much help and he eventually settled on a stupid game show he'd watched before.

Well, now he'd spend his time irritated at stupid people and their inability to solve easy puzzles. Better than Christmas cheer.

Hayley giggled. "I'm way older than ten," she said. "Can't ya tell?"

"If you say so," he said and chuckled. "Why are you waggling your eyebrows at me?"

"...gee, are you older than ten?" Hayley said. "I thought all boys would know that."

"Cute," Alex said, rolling his eyes. "I know what it means but I thought cartoon characters and pre-teen girls used that as a way to flirt."

"I'm not a cartoon," Hayley said. "And I definitely ain't pre-teen. But the idea might be the same."

"It's not working real well," he said, bluntly honest as always. "It makes me think you have a nervous tic."

"Oh," Hayley said, frowning a little. "Well, I definitely ain't nervous. What reason would I have to be nervous?"

"Jesus, I don't know, I'm not you," he said, shooting her another look. "If you find out a reason to be nervous, you don't really have to tell me. I don't care that much."

"Well, are you a bad boy?" Hayley asked, smirking. "Cause if so, that really won't make me nervous."

"I don't label myself and I'm not actively trying to make you do anything," he said, shaking his head. "But congratulations. That's swell for you."

"It sure is," Hayley said, grinning. "We just need to get you all swell now."

"Perfectly fine how I am," he told her, shrugging. "No need or want to be swell."
