Third floor common room [Tuesday night]

For once Jaime wasn't spending his time in the common room cooking. Nope. Tonight he was sprawled out on the couch with a ziplock bag full of ice resting on his cheek. He'd spent most of Monday watching the bruise blossom from slight discoloration into a genuine shiner. So now he was just lying around watching improv comedy shows and trying to look pitiful.

It wasn't like he was above trying to get free food or care out of an injury that wasn't really that big a deal. After all, the Scarab would have completely healed the thing by now if he hadn't pointed out that that would have drawn a lot of attention. And that it didn't really hurt anyway.

So there Jaime lay: it was a nice night for sketch comedy and sympathy.

Momoko did not bounce into the room, just a leisurely walk, looking for a snack. At least until she saw who was lying on the couch. And suddenly remembered why he would be holding an ice pack.

"Jaime?! Ah!" She was leaning over him in a flash, reaching to lift the bag and see his face. "Can I see? I am so sorry! Are you okay? I totally didn't mean to hit you back then! It was real? It wasn't me even though it was. But it wasn't, okay?"

"Oh, hey," Jaime grinned when he saw her, no trace of worry in his tone. "You're back to normal! You okay after all the weirdness?"

He almost sounded worried about her.

Raven just happened to be passing through the third floor common room on her way back from the play. "Hello, Jaime," she said. "You are injured. What happened?"

"Me?! I'm fine! I can't believe I hit you!" She did sound worried. She backed up a step to bow deeply at him. Over and over again. "I am so sorry! I... I didn't know I was being weird, and it wasn't even me! I mean, I don't even have a motorcycle! And you were so nice to Yomoko... I mean, me, and then I hit you, and you have a black EYE! I am so so so so sorry!" More bowing.

"Oh, just another casualty of the crazy weekend," Jaime waved with a shrug. "No big deal..."

Oh, wait, play for sympathy! "Er, I mean, oh it hurts so bad. If only someone were around to get me some cake or something."

Raven recognized the ploy but smiled. "Would it not be better if I healed you so you could get the cake yourself?"

"Momoko!" Jaime said loudly, trying not to laugh (and still sounding a bit worried. "It's no big deal. I don't even think that you who wasn't you was even trying to hit me. And it's over."

He reached out a hand and waved for her to sit down somewhere. "Come on. Stop all that bowing. It makes me feel awkward."

"What? No!" Jaime shook his head emphatically, and since he didn't wince the bruise couldn't have been all that bad. "If you did that how would I get other people to get me cake?"

"Your legs do not appear to be injured," Raven pointed out.

"But I'm injured..." Jaime made a go at puppy-dog eyes. He wasn't very good at it. "You wouldn't want me moving around and slowing down my recovery, would you?"

[heromaniac]

She bowed once more time. "She wasn't! I mean she wanted to, but she wouldn't have really, if you'd just told her about the bike." She plopped to the floor in front of the couch. "Not that there was a bike. At least I don't think there was. She thought there was." She covered her face with her hand. "And here I thought I was normal all weekend. I am so sorry! Can I get you anything? More ice?"

The puppy-dog eyes were cute, but she still wasn't buying it. "Then surely it would be best for you if I healed your grievous injury," she said.

"I'm fine, Momoko. Promise. I'm just glad you're back. The you with glasses seemed so sad, and the other one seemed so angry. I like you better this way."

"I wouldn't want to burden you," Jaime objected, changing tactics.

Raven had never met people so stubborn about being healed before she came to Fandom. "It is my gift," she said. "It is no burden."

"Why couldn't your gift be getting people cake?" Jaime teased.

[trigons_child]

"Because then everyone around me would be fat," Raven responded, smiling.

[weldedtomyspine]

"Only if you abused your gift," Jaime countered. "But you could use it for good. Like, only getting cake for poor injured boys!"

[trigons_child]

"I will get you cake," Raven said thoughtfully, "but only if you allow me to heal you when I return with it."

[weldedtomyspine]

Jaime thought about that. "But then you take away my source of more cake."

[heromaniac]

"Thank you. I like being just me, too." Momoko sighed. "I think the worst part is that I didn't even know I wasn't me the whole time. How can you even be your own triplet? That was the weirdest weekend ever! Next time I'm not me, lock me up or something? At least then I can't go around hitting people."

She looked up at him. "You sure you don't want anything?"

"You can continue to press the ice against your face and pretend?" Raven suggested.

"I'd feel bad l oc king you up," he objected. Then he paused to consider her question.

"Well..." on the one hand... he didn't want her feeling guilty. On the other hand... "If there are any cookies, I don't suppose I'd say no..."

"Ooooh, that's a good point," Jaime allowed. "But that won't work tomorrow..." And he planned to milk this as long as possible.

"What if I bring you a whole cake so that you have slices you can save for later?" Raven offered. She wasn't above bribery to heal stubborn people who wouldn't let her heal them. She was seriously thinking she just shouldn't ask anymore.
