Magic Reserves, Wednesday Afternoon, Preserve Near The Cabins

Now that everyone was in their right minds--hopefully--Merlin was ready to once again try and face the public. He might end up hiding in his room if this went badly again.

At least he could take biscuits from here before he fled to a life as a hermit.

"Hello, everyone. Today we'll just be having a bit of a free week. Since it's finals for most of us and holidays for many soon after. And there is no need for any--er--excitement after last week, yes?"

"Yeah, the last few weeks have been pretty stressful for people, so we thought something a bit more low-key might be in order," Karla added, standing a precisely-considered distance away from Merlin. 'Close enough to show that we're still friends' was balanced by 'far away enough to show the lack of shenanigans.' She might have spent a considerable amount of time thinking about that, it's true.

"Last week, however, illustrated something very important. As with all kinds of power, magic can be misused and abused. Sometimes it's accidental, like in cases where people don't know what they're doing. Other times it might unintentional, like when people don't understand what they're doing is wrong--or even have no idea they're doing anything at all. Either way, it's important to know what is considered ethical--and, more importantly, what's considered unethical."

Tony nodded.  "I think the big one is free will. If you're affecting someone's abilities to make choices, that's a big red flag.  I can't think of any time it's okay to mess with someone's head, unless you're trying to undo something worse. Any others? What do you guys think?"

Kennedy was around, stubbornly refusing to avoid Arthur but still a bit sulky over yesterday's hide and seek fiasco.

She'd taken up her usual spot against a tree, but with her arms crossed over her chest and a slightly more stormy expression than usual. The question at hand wasn't really doing much to assuage that, sadly. Hello there, unfamiliar but uncomfortable prospect. She'd be remembering this in a couple of years.

Arthur was there, of course. He was attempting to be stealthy about the occasional look he threw in Karla's direction.

It wasn't a death glare. It wasn't particularly happy, but it wasn't a death glare. This was important to note.

It appeared to be her day for so-called stealthy looks. Once she finished catching Tara's eye, she switched over to catch Arthur's eye, too.

This time, her expression was less 'faintly amused' and more 'faintly annoyed.'

Francine was multi-colored and dubious-look-free, except for the occasional one she shot at Arthur which might, if you could read Francinese, be translatable as Could you BE less stealthy, and think about who's pointing this out?

Mostly she was munching cookies and nodding rather fervently along with the bits about messing with people's heads.

Ino did not normally show up at this reserve, no.

Ino was up in a tree, cross-legged and giving the talk a 'bitch, please' look at the whole 'I can't ever think of a time where mind alteration is a good thing'. Yeah, whatever.

And musing on the fact that if she actually voiced her question, to the group at large, she'd probably get snapped at. This did not stop her from muttering it quietly. "Can you elaborate on the standards of ethics you've arbitrarily decided that everyone, despite there being people from different universes and worlds here, should be on the same level of?"

Because, no. Ino wasn't impressed with the assumptions inherent in the discussion topic.

Of course, this would be the day that she'd check them out. Sigh.

Of course, this meant that he heard the muttering, and, try as he might, he couldn't resist tossing back an answer, now.

"Completely agreeing with this." Dinah bit into a cookie with extra gusto. "I've seen people who were forced to kill themselves because someone messed with their heads. That was deliberate on the part of the person messing with them, but I know it can happen on accident too." She bit her lip, and added, "It's hard when you don't have total control, though. I mean, I take a lot of precautions so I don't accidentally read people, but sometimes, stuff happens. But I think that just means I have to be extra careful."
