Third Floor Common Room [Friday Evening]

The fact that Bobby was in the common room was not, generally speaking, cause for alarm. The fact that he was in the common room kitchen area with a box of brownie mix might be, though, depending on who you asked.

Kennedy didn't seem too concerned from her spot on the couch. She did, however, look pretty pleased with how the t-shirts that both she and Bobby were sporting had turned out. The t-shirts that read "I can't help it if the ladies know a good thing when they see it".

The gaggle of snow-angels that had been following Bobby around all day apparently agreed with the t-shirt's sentiment, at least from the way they sighed dreamily every time he glanced their way. Bobby was pretty sure he'd seen one of them swoon, even.

Dinah peeked out from between her fingers, not-looking at the TV, and then said, "Oh, for the love of... Gimme that." And TK'd it without asking over to herself.

MUTE.

STOP.

OFF.

"...whew."

Karla peeked out from behind her hands. "Is it off then?"

Dinah couldn't help but smirk a little. "The scary naked people are gone, Karla. Safe to look now."

"They weren't scary!" Karla muttered. "They were just...surprising! I wasn't expecting naked people. If I'd been expecting them, I'd've been fine. Besides, you were covering your eyes, too."

Re: The Movie

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah shuddered. "Because they were taaacky. And fake! Oh my god." And yeah, still a little scary. "I'm bliiiiind."

The question had to be asked. "So...that weekend, when we were all crazy...I didn't...with the water-bra or whatever..."

If she found out she bore even the slightest resemblance to Veronique and her nearly spherical breasts, she was hiding in her room and never coming out.

"And what's a hen party, exactly?" she added quickly.

"No! No." Dinah shook her head vehemently. "Yours looked good enough to be real. Promise!" Magic plastic surgery must've been a lot better than the real stuff. "And it's a party girls have right before one of them gets married. To get drunk and silly and ogle male strippers for maybe the last time." She was still pink, then added, "And I've never been to one, but I've never heard that they had to be like that, either."

"Strippers?"

Whores, Karla was familiar with. The myriad other avenues of employment in the sex industry were still a mystery.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Um, exotic dancers?" Dinah tried, turning a little pink. "They don't have sex with anybody, but they take their clothes off and, uh. Do sexy dances?" She rubbed her face, bemused. "Men and women both, for each kind of party. Guys' bachelor parties are called stag parties."
glacial_queen: (Are you for real?)

...

"The night before your wedding, you go and have random people take off their clothing and dance for you?" Karla asked, very, very dubious. "Is this another thing people go to school for? Like Priestly's cooking?"

This world was so fricking weird.

Re: The Movie

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah snickered and said, "I think some do take dance classes, and I know I've heard of there being exotic dancing classes-- although some girls take them so they can sexy-dance for they boyfriends or husbands... um, so. Most girls do it to pay the bills, not as a long-term career." She tilted her head. "Chuck owns a bar where they dance on the mainland, I'm pretty sure he said."

"His bar hosts hen parties every night?" she asked, deciding not to touch the part about people learning it just for fun. "And what's the difference between doing it to pay the bills and having a long-term career? Don't bills last forever, too?"

Re: The Movie

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Stag parties way more often, I think. Girl dancers." Because that would just be Chuck's style, that. Plus more profitable, probably. "And sometimes guys just want to go watch girls dance and take off their clothes. And the difference would be quitting when you're thirty or so and you start looking older, I'd guess. A lot of them are in college, or trying to break into acting or dancing that doesn't involve taking their clothes off." How did she get into these conversations with Karla, again?
glacial_queen: (Skeptical)

Re: The Movie

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2009-12-19 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait--so people go and watch these people dance, even when it isn't some kind of occasion? You just go and they dance? But this is the same world that has made Red Moon Houses illegal."

WTF. Her expression was pure WTF.

"...Are you going to dance when you're in college to pay the bills?" Karla asked, now worried.

Re: The Movie

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, was there ever an occasion for a spit-take, and nothing to spit.

"No! God no!" Dinah's eyes were huge, and she tried to back-track to where that got confusing. "College costs money. But my family has enough that I don't have to worry about that. Most people save up, or get loans, or scholarships, but some girls think it's easier to earn a lot of money like this." Although, taking a class to dance like that for Jak, well...

It's a good thing she didn't know about the stripper pole suite at the Arms, hmm?

"And yes, the customers just watch the girls dance, and they can't touch them or kiss them--" Let's not get into lap dances and confuse her more, not now, anyway. "It's just, it's a fantasy. I guess. The guy dancers do the same thing. Only I think maybe there's some touching involved, sometimes..." Dinah added feebly. Eeeeep.
glacial_queen: (Confused)

"I'd help you if you ever had to dance for college money," Karla said loyally. "Or is that the kind of thing that would get me in trouble? I wouldn't mean it as charity," she tried to reassure Dinah.

As for the rest of the explanation, Karla just decided to let it go. She was getting to the point where she was almost glowing. This was not at all how she expected the evening to turn out.

Re: The Movie

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah had a sudden image of Karla offering her money for her G-string, and fell over in giggles, turning very, very scarlet. "I know. I know! And thanks? But, uh, wow, not needed. And maybe trouble? You're underage. Neither of us could get into one of those places, if it was legit." She gulped for breath, hugging a pillow and giggling. "I'd wait tables or work at a fast food place before I'd do that. So not my style, having guys ogle me while I'm just about naked."
glacial_queen: (Hee)

Re: The Movie

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2009-12-20 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
And now it was Karla's turn to almost spit-take and try to figure out where things had gone wrong. "Underage? Get it..? Oh!" She joined Dinah in laughter, having figured out what Dinah had thought she'd meant. "No! I'd meant that I'd--" more laughter "--I'd just give you the money," she said. "Not like...set up a dance routine or something with you!"

She was laughing so hard she was crying at this point.

Dinah's giggles weren't stopping any time soon, no.

When she finally got her breath back, she said, "Awww. That is really, really sweet, but... you do get that my family's insanely rich, right?" She snickered, and took a deep breath, then facepalmed. "Only person I'd be dancing for would be Jak. Yup."
glacial_queen: (Backwards giggle)

"I was saying I would if you needed it, cause we're friends, not volunteering and...oh it doesn't matter now," Karla said, holding onto her stomach. "But if I wouldn't help you with a routine to pay for college, you're definitely on your own for Jak!"
