4th Floor Common Room [Sunday, Afternoon]

Much as Angela appreciated a little bit of snow, there was a point at which even she saw the downside of actually going out in it. Today it had about hit that. So instead of wrapping up and going outside she was in the common room in the midst of a masterpiece of a gingerbread house.

Bits of it were getting eaten along the way, so it was probably lucky there was a lot to go around.

And in case anyone who might worry about testing her baking, this one came with pre-baked gingerbread (since this was rather more an artistic activity than a culinary one) as well as a lot of glittery sugar icing, sprinkles and chocolate. It was lucky she had a good metabolism.

"Oh, wow, that looks gorgeous," Didi said as she wandered into the common room. "Are you going to let people eat it, or just save it?"

"Definitely for eating," Angela assured her, snagging a jelly candy off the wall, as if that was proof. "But I might take some pictures first. Just for the proof."

"It has to be immortalized," Didi agreed. "I've never built one. Was it hard?"

"Not really," Angela answered, replacing that jelly with a new one out of the packet. Stealing them off the 'lawn' rather than out the bag made so much sense, yes.

"But technically, the hardest part was pre-made for me." The hard part being the actual shaping and baking bit. "I just put it up and stuck candy on."

"That looks like the fun part anyhow," Didi said. "I don't really bake."

She held out a hand. "Jelly bean?"

"Mm, help yourself," she offered, fishing out the right bag and handing it over. "I would not do this in a common room unless I was into sharing."

"Not really a baker either," Angela added. "But I like prettying things up once they're all made. Tasty creative outlet." She was a fan of those.

Didi fished out some orange jelly beans. "See, that makes me wonder how a gingerbread house would look if somebody used a beadazzler on it," she said easily. "i'm Didi, byt the way. Are you sticking around for break too?"

"Angela," she shared in return, and grinned. "And yes I am."

"Also now I'm wondering if there isn't some kind of bedazzler for candy. If not, there really should be." Who wouldn't want to decorate their stuff with sugary goodness?

"I bet you could load candy in a regular bedazzler," Didi speculated. "But I don't know how you'd get it to stick candy to things, and not just smash the candy."

"Maybe if you used the right candy," she considered. "Or added sticky enough icing to it."

Angela shrugged. "I never really thought much about how those things worked."

"Yeah, that makes two of us," Didi agreed, nonplussed. "I guess we have time over break to experiment, if we really want to."

It was not precisely at the top of her priority list.

"I really don't think I'm that bored yet," Angela admitted with a laugh. "But you never can tell, after a week or so without classes just waiting for new people to arrive."

"It sounds like prime time to watch all the DVDs you own or organize your sock drawer," Didi said. "Maybe take up new hobbies."

"Or just spend a lot of time in bed." Which wasn't a bad alternative, in Angela's book, especially when it was this cold out.

"Dude, gingerbread house," Hurley said, wandering into the common room. "I can smell the sugar from, like, a floor up."

"Ooh, then I am definitely doing something right," she decided, and grinned at him over her shoulder. "Any good at aesthetic candy arrangement?"

"Usually I find candy best arranged in my stomach," Hurley joked.

"Works there too," Angela agreed, shrugging easily. "It's a case of one for me, one for the house. You want to help?"

"Sure," Hurley said. "We going for any sort of, like... theme or anything?"

"Just, you know, Christmas," Angela replied, offering him a tub of candy. "If it looks good, which pretty much anything does, go for it!"

"Hmmmm," Hurley said. "I'm not much of an artist, though. Maybe I should let you stick to designing and I'll just... get rid of the excess material."

"Help yourself if you want, sweetie," she offered, picking off one of her candy roof tiles to eat. "But I promise it doesn't take a whole lot of artistic skill to stick the odd chocolate button out."

"You staying around here over the holidays?" she asked.

"Yeah," Hurley said. "Like always, kinda can't afford to go home." He smiled, a sad smile.

Angela smiled back at him sympathetically. "Like always, my dad's a bit busy. So I'll be around again at least."

"Cool," Hurley said. "I dunno if Penelope will be around or anything, so... cool."

"Maybe there'll be some kind of Christmas dinner going on," Angela mused. "I mean, I know Liir did that whole spread last year... but you'd think there'd be something official."

"Maybe," Hurley said. "We can hope. If anything, we can brew something up together, right?"

"We can try," Angela offered, nodding as she strategically placed some eyes on her gingerbread Santa. "I hope you know what you're doing though," she said with a bit of a laugh. "I'm not much of a chef, and neither is Hannibal even if I can entice him along."

"I can cook," Hurley said. "I'm not the best at it, but I can cook."

"Then you're a step up from me," she assured him. "I can arrange nicely once things are cooked up and sorted, but I am definitely more a take out sort of girl."

"Well, you can be in charge of the place settings," Hurley said. "Hopefully some more cooks will be around."

"Hopefully," Angela agreed with a laugh. "But I can definitely take decorating in hand. Knowing this island, I'll probably have some help before then. It does seem to love the festive season."
