3rd Floor Common Room [Sunday Afternoon]

Bobby's ability to somehow procure massive amounts of food had not deserted him, as evidenced by the fact that currently in the common room there was one (1) Bobby Drake, a stack of the last three (3) issues of Rebel Justice Unleashed and one dozen (12) pizzas of various varieties.

The common room was open and Bobby was perfectly willing to share... the pizzas, that is. Persuading him to share comic books might be a more difficult task.

[ooc: bored. avoiding doing anything resembling something productive, at least until I have to go back to school tomorrow.]

"I don't know about that," Zayne said. "I think a lightsaber is still pretty interesting even if the name is literal."

"That's, what, an ultra-concentrated laser cutter?"

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Close. It's a sword where the blade is a big focused laser," Zayne said. "It can cut through pretty much anything, though."

Claudia could picture it fairly easily, but still saw a few holes in the concept. ". . . Lead tip?"

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"No, the laser just kind of stops and goes back down," Zayne said. He wasn't really sure he was explaining it well.

"It's light. It doesn't just stop unless something stops it."

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, technically I guess it's a kind of plasma energy in a containment field," Zayne said. "I'll be honest, I didn't really understand it when I was making mine, but it works."

". . . Not really understanding the tech you're working with is a good way to get, like, electrocuted."

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, most of the electronics just needed to be put in the right spot in the hilt, so that part was pretty foolproof," Zayne explained. "I mostly just had to customize the hilt, position the crystals and lenses, and hope that I got everything into the right place before closing it up."

"... That did take a few tries. But no electrocutions!"

Zayne was actually pretty proud of that.

"Someone was at least, like, showing you how to do that, right?"

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"I had some instruction. But actually constructing one without any help was part of my training," Zayne said.

"Do they weed people out by seeing who manages to get themselves injured?"

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think I've ever heard of anyone hurting themselves putting one together," Zayne said. "I think it would pretty tough to do unless you're really customizing it. And nobody would even try that unless they really knew what they were doing."
notmyownage: (*is confused*)

[personal profile] notmyownage 2010-01-04 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"So it's like, what, a crystal radio kit, where you're from? You just, what, buy the kit and slap it together?"

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Zayne paused to think of the best way to explain it without going into too much detail. "Well, my Order had a bunch of pieces I could choose from, and then I had to find my own crystal, and then I put it all together for a few months. You have to choose every detail carefully to really get a connection to it, so it takes a while."

He didn't really mean to tease details one at a time, but it's just the way the questioning was going.

". . . Your Order."

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"The Jedi Order. They're peacekeeping monks," Zayne said. He paused. "From another galaxy."

And then it occurred to him to ask an important question. "Do you believe anything I'm saying? I swear it's all the truth."
notmyownage: (*is gesturing*)

[personal profile] notmyownage 2010-01-04 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Not even a little. "Well, you gotta kinda wonder why a dude from another galaxy needs to go to school in Maryland."

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Part of my training is to go learn from another culture," Zayne said. "I just happened to get sent to another galaxy."
notmyownage: (*is skeptical of this crap*)

[personal profile] notmyownage 2010-01-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Uh . . . huh. "So they get you to build what would have to be a seriously deadly weapon and then send you to high school?"

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, we think of it more as a tool than a weapon," Zayne said. "But... yeah. They did.... I have it in the weapons locker if you want to see it."

He realized as he was speaking that calling it a weapons locker immediately after saying the lightsaber wasn't a weapon wasn't strengthening his case.
notmyownage: (*is confused*)

[personal profile] notmyownage 2010-01-04 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
It really wasn't.

"The fact that this school has a weapons locker worries me."

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Zayne nearly pointed out that if there wasn't a weapons locker, people would probably be armed in the dorms. He thought better of it. He felt it might be less comforting than he intended.

"It's... one of the school's quirks. One of the many quirks," Zayne said. "But once you can look past that, it's a really nice place."
notmyownage: (Default)

[personal profile] notmyownage 2010-01-04 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose it's better than walking around armed."

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Not for the first time, Zayne had been wrong.

"That's the way I look at it," Zayne said. "Seriously, though, if you ever want to see a lightsaber and see if you can explain how it works, the offer's on the table."

"You can't take it apart, though." He'd spent enough time around Jaina and Ben. He knew that people who could follow all of that stuff about a machine liked to take things apart.
