First Floor, Lobby / Saturday

Azula entered the first floor lobby, her clothes worn from the battle near the gates. As agreed with Arthur she was here to set-up a defense for the dormitory. There were a few people crowding the lobby, she turned to look at them gold eyes glinting.

"We need students capable of fighting help defend the dorm. Anyone interested in joining, come see me."

Tara's voice was almost too soft to hear when she peeled herself away from the wall and said, "Tell. Um. Tell me what you need."

She'd managed to use a freezing spell well enough that morning to get a gremlin into a position where someone less-softhearted and handwavy could smash it. After Karla's call, she was ready to do more.

Even if it meant facing Azula.

Azula turned to the sound of her voice and looked at Tara with an appraising eye. "What can you do?"

A few months ago, Azula would have gotten some stuttering and nothingi'mnotspecialsorrytobotheryou as an answer, but it was not a few months ago. Tara knew she had to choke back that old instinct.

"Basic spellwork," she said clearly, if still softly. "This morning I froze one in place. I have telekinesis that would work on things this small. Some light shielding. I could probably work something else up. M-my offensive magic is, um, pretty much all theory, but if I had someone to cover me if it didn't go right I could try energy bolts."

Azula frowned, those creatures were already inside the building. That was not good.

"You can pair up with someone with a more offensive power. Right now my first concern is that creature you froze. It means we already have a breach and we can't afford to be in separate groups."

"They're all through the dorms," Tara told her, surprised Azula hadn't noticed this. "People have been, um. People have been freaking out."

Almost as an afterthought, she added, "I'll look for someone to work with."

"I was outside, fighting," she answered crisply. Brilliant. Azula knew there was a reason to return here. "Don't wander off, if people are 'freaking out' as you say they would need comfort." Azula smirked. "For some reason people don't think I'm comforting."

Plus, a panicking populace was a useless populace.

Tara was not shocked by that last revelation.

"So just -- stay here and try to be comforting?" she said. "Do c-crowd control on the dorms? I can manage that. Probably."

"Yes but keep one of your spells ready just in case," then added when she received word, "Don't use water based spells."

Tara's head bobbed once in a nod. "Why not?" she asked uncertainly, though she didn't even know any water-based spells to start with.

"Apparently," she said dryly, "they multiply when wet."

Tara frowned at the sky outside. "We better hope it doesn't rain."

More problems. How nice.

"Is there a way we can communicate the water problem to everyone?" She asked.

"Send someone with a big mouth" -- by which Tara meant not me, please, please, please -- "to knock on every door? And, uh, signs for the dorms. A-and get whoever does radio tonight to mention it."

She kept thinking about it. "Maybe a phone tree? I d-don't think half the people here know how to use email."

Azula was one of the people who don't know how to use an email.

"Too time consuming." She dismissed, but it did remind her. "We also have to mark the places which are compromised."

"Azula, they're like two feet tall," Tara pointed out as she folded her arms over her chest, "They -- I think everywhere they want to be, they already are."

Dinah came down the hall from the laundry rooms, still wet, now mad and slightly chewed-on. "Hey. Got Arthur's text. And talked to him. Getting my weapons. Are they outside? And don't let them go through that door--" she added, pointing to the stairwell to the pool.

Azula narrowed her eyes, assessed Dinah's situation, "Those things made it inside?" She glanced to where Dinah was pointing. "Don't let them near the pool? Why?"

"They multiply when you get them wet," Dinah said in sheer disgust. "There were three, messing with the hoses to the washing machines, then there were nine, then there were more before we got them. And that's the door to the swimming pool!" she threw over her shoulder, breaking into a jog. "Back in a minute!"

She ran full-out to the salle, and was actually surprised not to run into any on the way there or back-- that was weird. But good. Grabbed her broadsword, eskrima sticks, and ran back.

She knew there was a reason why those creatures were far too many. When Dinah returned she asked: "Did you mention this to Arthur?"

"Yeah, he'd just heard about it from someone else, too. He said you were coming, and Mat." Dinah unsheathed her sword, and sent the door to the pool a very worried look indeed. "What if they're already down there? They're little enough to get in from any place."

"Then we make sure, we'll send in a team to check but so far there seems to be no disturbance from that area." Azula looked around the lobby with a scowl. If it were up to Azula she would burn the whole pool area just to be sure but she suspected the school would take it against her. "I didn't realize the dorm's been compromise that severely, we have to make sure people don't wander around alone."

"And there's showers and sinks they can turn on, on every floor," Dinah said grimly. "The Common Rooms are going to be targets as well, it they aren't already in there, too. The pool's the worst-- I guess we could lock it up once we know it's secure, but I don't know how we could be sure it would stay that way, even with doors and windows locked up."

Azula quickly revised the plans in her head. "We need to disseminate the information about the water to everyone and limit their water supply."

"Any idea how?" Dinah sounded mildly exasperated to her own ears, but with the situation, not Azula. "They can rip down posters-- although I don't know if they can read. School-wide text? ... which will miss the kids without phones or e-mail." She grimaced. "Guards on every floor, each end of the halls?" Crap!

Azula nodded, "That's the best we can do but we need a map, see what floors these creatures are in."

This whole thing was so disorganized. This was why she didn't want to be on the defensive, on the other hand this was the most fun she's had in years.

Kurt appeared in the middle of the lobby in a puff of sulfurous smoke. He was blue and fuzzy, but bleeding a normal red from all the cuts and scrapes all over. Also, he was wet. He'd had a morning (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/4771240.html).

"Do NOT let them get wet!!!" he warned. "It is BAD!!!"

"Very," Dru replied, her hand might have edged towards her knife, because a body appearing in the middle of stinky smoke wasn't usually a good thing. Fortunately she recognized the accent.

"Kurt?" she as warily.

"Ja. No time to explain." Kurt sighed. "Seriously. Water? VERY bad. Is everyone all right?"

"It's a different look for you," Dru said. But suddenly the conversation they'd had back when the semester first started made more sense. "Dinah and I found out about the water. But we got the new ones and we're both okay." Scratched up, but they'd live.

"How about you? Are they in town as well?"

"I don't KNOW," Kurt admitted. "One of them attacked me, so I dunked it in the pond... and that's been my whole morning. I haven't seen much else."

"The pond?" She winced, imagining how well that turned out. "Are you okay?" Since Kurt wasn't freaking out Dru was assumed that blue and furry wasn't exactly a surprise, she was just worried about any gremlin induced injuries.

Kurt shrugged. "I am NOW," he answered. "They're all taken care of. THOSE ones, I mean. I've got a feeling there's a lot more out there."

"A lot more," Dru nodded. "They're in the dorms as well. Dinah and I took out a bunch in the laundry room. But I'm sure there are more in the rest of the dorm."

Dinah blinked hard. "Um. Yeah, and-- who are you again? We're gonna lock the doors to the pool, after we check it out. Maybe barricade them." She half-recognized the voice, just hadn't placed it yet, although the teleporting was a big giveaway.

"Kurt. Kurt Wagner. I'm not usually blue. Except, I really am, just... Look, it's COMPLICATED, okay? Barricade the doors NOW. I'll check the pool."

"Duh, I should've-- oh, good! Right, you can zip out of there before they grab you if they're there." Dinah grinned at him. "We were about to do that, just trying to figure out how to check it. Go! We'll have it locked up and furniture against it before you get back."

A couch was maybe already dragging itself in that direction.

Kurt disappeared, and flashed through the pool area, appearing and disappearing as he checked everywhere that he could see.

A few minutes later, there were a couple more gremlins dashed to pieces out in the rocky bits, and the pool area was empty.

"All clear!" he announced, as he appeared back in the lobby.

"Awesome!" Dinah gave Kurt a thumbs up, and finished dragging more furniture in place, then started pushing one of the video games, using TK and muscle. "How does it look out there? I haven't been further than the salle."

Azula blinked at his appearance. Another teleporter.

"Yes, we've heard. How did you find out?"

Kurt shrugged and looked a little sheepish. "I dropped one in the pond," he admitted.

Dru had followed Dinah up to the Lobby and was keeping a wary eye out for whatever else might appear. Just ignore the goo covered hair she kept pushing back off her face.

Azula saw another girl she didn't recognize. "Tell us what happened, what you can do."

"I was with Dinah in the laundry room," Dru answered, figuring there was no sense in repeating what Dinah had already told the other girl. "I've got a knife, and I'm good with a gun. I just don't have one at the moment."

"Guns are long range weapon, yes? When you get one we need someone to help with the perimeter. 'Til then don't wander off. We also need a way to tell everyone about how water affects these creatures."

"I'll go check the weapons locker. There has to be one in there I can use," she replied.

"As for telling people, is there a P.A. system in the building? Maybe we could use that."

"There's a teleporter around here, maybe he can help teleport you to the locker." She looked up at the ceilings. "Let's send a team to use the PA system."

"I don't need to be teleported," Dru said since Kurt seemed to be AFK at the moment. "These things are nasty but I can handle them. And it'll be even easier once I have a gun."
