The Roof (and elsewhere in the dorms), Sunday evening

The roof was empty of all but a few gremlins scurrying about, trying to find ways into the dorms below. Then there was a faint fwhomp and a puff of black smoke as Raven teleported herself and Dinah from Caritas to the dorms. Raven felt their malevolence as the gremlins turned to regard their new prey. "We are not alone," she warned Dinah.

[ooc: Dinah and Raven are doing some gremlin hunting, starting on the roof and working their way down, but others are welcome to run into them!]

Dinah immediately fired up one of the flashlights she'd brought along, and swept the roof with it. "Can you influence them, like you were hoping?"

Skittering and cursing in the shadows, and hiding from the flashlight.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Hunh." Dinah watched the wandering emo-gremlin, then said, "How are you feeling? And can you do that again, or not?" She swung the flashlight again, frightening off a couple who'd started creeping closer.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh for-- stupid, stupid," Dinah said, wondering which one of them was dumber for thinking this was a good plan. As if faced with a growling Blind Seer, she growled back, then reached to bonk Raven on the head with the flashlight, not too hard. "Snap out of it!"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"No problem," Dinah said, slightly rattled, but shaking her head. "How many were you trying to suck up the anger from there?" She held out her hand to Raven to help her up. "And can you sense how many are left as a threat? Maybe we should pitch these guys over the edge of the roof..." She didn't actually *want* to, now that they were docile, but. "How long is this going to last?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Dinah wasn't down with it either; she knew some people wouldn't have a problem with it, but they weren't here. But if the gremlins got violent and attacked someone again, that would be bad too. She frowned, then said decisively, "Lock 'em in a closet. We can herd them into it with the light, and then chain it shut. If they get violent and get out again, we'll deal with them then."

Things to think through before you de-fang the opposition, next time, Dinah noted to herself.

"C'mon, little zombie gremlins..." Dinah shone the light, and while the gremlins didn't so much hurry, they still avoided it. "This-a-way to a nice little pied-a-terre you can call your own."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
They managed to get them moving in a relatively straggly crowd down the stairs, and then Dinah opened a storage closet, and pointed inward. "Here we are. Paper towels to play with. Shelves to climb. Windex to-- no, better grab that." She grabbed and TK'd everything liquid out of the closet, and shoo'd the rest in after the first few. Mostly they just lay down like they needed a nap, or time in an emo funk. "Theeere you go."

She shut and locked the door after them, then re-settled her sword on her back. "Right. Okay. One floor down. Six to freaking go. Oy."

Dinah handed over her other flashlight, and took a breath. "Catch them in the crossbeams? And I'll grab any that get by with TK?"

"Down toward the stairs, so we can chase them all out. Although the light's going to kill them-- you know that, right? And--"

A gremlin leaped from the pit, red eyes gleaming as it chittered threat, claws out. "NOW!"

Which was when Triela sprinted past, heeled leather boot leading in a brutal kick to the gremlin's face. It would have been a lot cooler if her other ankle hadn't turned slightly in the unaccustomed heels and she hadn't gone down as two more gremlins jumped out of the pit.

"Triela!" Dinah had her light flashing over the two girls now, and had to draw her sword with her other hand. One gremlin began to sizzle, screaming, on the edge of the pit, but the other leaped toward Dinah. A combination of the light and slashing at it with the sword had it down and bleeding, missing a leg. Dinah looked over Raven and Triela's heads, toward the dozen red eyes in between the balls of the pit. "Crap. Triela? Are you hurt, and do you want a flashlight?" Slash as another one got too close.

"I'm fine," Triela growled, really hating the stupid heels. "These heels are infuriating."

She bounced back to her feet almost before Raven could offer her any assistance, muttering under her breath. "What's with the flashlights?"

"It hurts and sometimes kills them," Dinah said more practically, and offered hers to Triela. "Ditch the heels, we won't tell." She kicked out with her boots at one of the gremlins, then slashed downward, cutting it nearly in half. "We're trying to clear out the dorm, top to bottom."

Triela took the light and hefted it experimentally. "Can't ditch the heels," she scowled. "Orders."

More precisely: she could, if she were willing to pay the price.

"But having a weapon means I won't have to move as much." That would help.

Hissing. Cackling. Maniacal giggles.

And then ten of the gremlins surged forward, looking to get past the shiny-bright lights and the girl with the sword. "Yaaaaaaaaah!"

Dinah started slamming them with telekinesis, cutting with her sword, and kicking for all she was worth.

"It'll take a lot more than a bad step to do any damage to my body," Triela explained to Raven, her tone clipped and distracted. As the gremlins rushed Dinah, Triela moved, fast enough to almost be a blur. The light she simply slashed across the gremlins Dinah couldn't get at. Just enough to distract them as she followed up with a knife pulled from a sheath at her back.

Dinah ducked out of Triela's way the best she could, and concentrated on catching the gremlins as they leaped, smacking them into each other, then finishing them off. Raven's light managed to get them sizzling and screaming, too, so they didn't get as close as they might have.

Two down. Four down. Six.... and then they started getting more difficult, diving back into the ball pit. "Awwwww, suck."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Triela just grinned. "You can get the balls out of there, can't you?" Dinah's TK was useful that way, and Triela didn't really know what its limits might be.

Re: Sixth Floor!

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah paused, then grinned over at Triela, keeping in the light path that Raven was shining toward the pit. "You know? I've always wanted to try this."

Take a breath. Then another. Center. Calm. Heartbeat. Opening her eyes, Dinah reached.

The balls shifted, settled, then rose, the top layer en masse, then another layer, and a third. The gremlins started shrieking as they were exposed to the light, trying to hang onto the balls, hide behind each other, and rush away.

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Triela surged forward, flashlight swinging to herd the gremlins to the right as she followed. "Just hold that in place." She'd trust Raven to cover Dinah's back.

She figured it was taking enough concentration to simply hold the balls up.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, mostly it was. A few gremlins rose with the next layer, shrieking and twisting in the air; two ignited and fried in the lights, and Dinah mentally sent an apology to Raven for this, knowing how much she hated this stuff. Must call Reno. Say hi, and thanks for helping me last year.

"Got it," she said shortly, certain she could hold the rest, as one or two skittered in the shadows on the floor, below the ones suspended and trying to get free. "Not difficult. Just takes concentration...."

Triela was getting quite good with her knife, so she made short work of the hapless gremlins. She took a few seconds to sweep her light around the dark corners of the room before calling "Clear!"

Dinah let the balls drop back into the pit - bounce bounce BOUNCE bounce BOUNCE bounce - and took a breath, feeling a headache start up. "And we're good. For now, anyway."

"Darnit." Dinah looked dismayed, set the flashlight down, and knelt next to Raven, putting one arm around her, projecting as much concern and sympathy as she could, and remembering her first time with the harpies. This really had been a bad idea. "Aw, Raven. Shhh. I'm sorry. Breathe, okay? Do you need some water?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Triela frowned thoughtfully down at the girl once she was sure they were secure for a bit. "I could get something to help you calm down," she offered, her matter-of-fact tone managing to seem at least slightly gentle.

Re: Sixth Floor!

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah gave Triela a wince at that idea, and said, "No, bad idea, we have no idea how she'd react to that." Then she took a breath and said, "Raven, if you want to go now, you can. But are you sure you'll be okay on your own?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm pretty good at estimating dosages," Triela pointed out to Dinah. Besides, Raven looked like she needed... something to help her calm down, regain some control.

"We will, I promise," Dinah said, smoothing Raven's hair, then stepping back. "Go."
