Laundry Room [Monday evening]

"Ew," Ben muttered to himself as he floated a laundry basket full of be-gremlin-gooed Jedi robes in front of him and opened the laundry room door.

"Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew," he continued as he stuffed them into the nearest washing machine, dumped in far too much detergent, and hit the start button.

Other than having to float in a bacta tank after a fight, Ben decided that doing the laundry was the worst part.

Dru came in a little bit later carrying her own basket of laundry.

"Please tell me gremlin goo comes out of clothes?" she asked when she spotted the other person in the room.

"I'm hoping," Ben said with a smile. "Because it'll take a while for my dad to send something from home."

"Home? The local Wal-Mart won't cut it?" Dru grinned as she set her basket down.

"Not unless I want to be dressed in a Space Battles ripoff," Ben replied, laughing.

"Fan-boy isn't your style?" She began pulling clothes out of the basket, frowning at some of the nastier stains.

"Not really," Ben said, "and my wardrobe outside the robes I normally wear is kind of limited."

He waved his hand down at his black flightsuit.

"Robes?" Dru considered the flight suit for a moment as she thought about it. "So you're a flying monk?"

Ben smiled. "Kind of. We're called Jedi."

"A Jedi? Not a term I've heard before," she admitted.

"I'm from a different galaxy," Ben said, "and even there we aren't common. Heard of, but not exactly everywhere."

"It's a good thing we're in the laundry room. It'll make it that much easier to clean the brains that just exploded out of my head off of my clothes," Dru laughed as she loaded the washing machine.

"Haven't you met any of us before?" Ben asked. "Maybe they just didn't mention they weren't from Earth."

"I met Zayne. And Mat. So I do know about people from different galaxies or different worlds entirely," she told him. "It's just that it's only been a few weeks. It's something that's going to take some getting used to."

"Zayne's from my galaxy," Ben said helpfully. "He's a Jedi too, but a few thousand years behind me."

He just helped her brain explode that much more. It was very kind of him.

"Do you have to avoid each other completely just to keep from accidentally causing some chain of events that would wind up making you your own grandfather?"

"Nah, my grandfather's already here," Ben said. "He teaches ethics."

"But...." Dru stared. "How is that possible? I have that class, he's not that old."

"More timeline weirdness," Ben said. "At home, he's been dead for fifty years."

"Do you guys carry scorecards around to keep track of the time line?" she asked. "Because that has to be confusing."

"Especially around Parents Weekend," Ben said, nodding. "I think Jaina's now met three different versions of my dad."

"You're related to Jaina? I met her on the first day. Speaking of which, I'm Dru." Since they'd kind of forgotten that part of the conversation and gone right to the brain breaking.

"Ben," he replied, holding out his hand. "Nice to meet you, Dru. Jaina's my cousin."

Dru shook Ben's offered hand. "Likewise. It must be nice to have family here. I've just got my dad and he's heading out towards the Dakotas right now."

"It has its moments of insanity," Ben said, "but it's probably the most time I've ever gotten to spend with them. My family doesn't really stay in one place that long. There are too many fires to be putting out."

"I can relate to that. Dad and I move around a lot too because of his work," she replied. "Being here at school for a semester will be the longest I've been in one place in a while."
