"We did well this past weekend in warding off the gremlins." Even if Arthur'd been asleep for... well, less time than he was starting to blow it up into being, but he was frustrated. Anyway. "But we can do better. We have shared out our phone numbers - and if you haven't, yet, please leave it in the middle - but when an invasion catches us this early in the morning, we're still left scrambling. I want some of you to serve as points of contact for other students, I want all of you to see about getting a warning out or something like it if you are caught outside the dorms."

"Today's activity is going to be simple," Zack added, crossing his arms over his chest and smiling. "Figure out these points of contact that we have to work on, talk about what it is we can do to make sure that people aren't getting caught out in this stuff without warning. And," he smiled a little, his expression wry, "suggest ways that we could have handled this last invasion better. They won't always party themselves to death."

"Probably a lot of potions, too," Zack replied. "The first mission is about the monsters in the slums, you know? But if we prove we can do it, then they might send us out for more field work in other places. And stuff gets more interesting once you're outside of the slums, generally."

Her laugh was a bit rueful.

"See? I hear the word mission and my memory decides to leave me 'cause I knew that and yet..."

Maybe she was a bit pink. Shut up.

"And there is nothing more interesting than a Hell House." Seriously.

"I bet we could find something! It's only a matter of time before we're hunting down malboros on deserted islands! Or... Or Behemoths!"

Yeah, no, probably not so much with the behemoths, Zack.

"Malboros? Behemoths?" Ino knew... a few monsters. But not that many.

Look, she wasn't even out of the slums yet. Give her time.

Ino tapped one finger against her cheek thoughtfully. "You busy tomorrow afternoon?"

Oh, their first malboro would be fun.

"Totally free for the rest of the week! My classes were all today, so unless I swing by the Magic Reserves or something, I really don't have anywhere else to be."

Fun fun fun!

"I've got work tomorrow," she noted, "but I bet I could get off a bit early if we wanted head out to do that mission..."

Mission. Not a date. Honest.

Totally just a mission. Because that was what friends did.

... Actually, it was, more or less. Killing monsters was far less romantic than, say, living together for a few days in the guy's own room in the city he called home when he wasn't at school.

Which they'd be doing, too.

"I could come pick you up!"

That wasn't romantic either. Shush.

It absolutely wasn't. None of it. It was all just practical.

Really.

Nevermind the fact that the other SOLDIERs had assumed they were dating the last time Ino had been visiting Zack's place. Never. Mind.

"I'd like that," she said, smiling. "I'll make sure to bring everything I need with me to work, then."

And totally forget about that lecture that Ino's dad had given Zack, back in Konoha. Seriously.

"Excellent! I'll pack up my materia, book the portal, and meet you there!"

A pause.

"Maybe I'll spend a little extra on the direct trip, instead of getting us stranded in the terminal again."

Ino laughed and bounced and maybe that was totally her going in for a hug then.

"Would ShinRa pay it? You're going back on work, after all."

"... You know, they might? I mean, it only makes sense. They ship me off to missions in the helicopter and stuff like that all the time, you know?"

He tilted his head back, looking at the sky, thinking it over for a moment.

"They have to! I'll call them later tonight and tell them to arrange for transport to Midgar, for two. If we plan on doing as many missions as we possibly can before we have to be back, then there's no way they can turn us down!"

“As if we wouldn’t do as many as we can,” Ino scoffed, grinning at that. “We’ll make it worth their while.”

And, really, worth their while as well.

“I think that’s soundin’ like a plan to me.” A good one. A nice and... violent one. Yes.

"Okay!" Zack gave his hands a clap, laughing and grinning and... Well, just generally merry. Shocking, no? "I'll call them up tonight, tomorrow we'll be on our way, and then it's monsters in Midgar!"
