Girls with Guns, Wednesday, After Classes
"Welcome back," Elena said. "I hope no one showed up last week, because I was in the Bahamas and I kind of figured everyone else was, too."
And if not, hopefully they enjoyed themselves sticking around here.
"This week, I'm gonna be one of those annoying people who beats you over the head with safety crap. There are rules up on the wall, and they're important. Whether you grew up with guns or you've never handled one before, you need to read the rules and follow them. It's when people get too comfortable that they start getting lax, and that's when people get hurt."
She held out her own handgun. "It's not loaded," she said, "because your gun should never be loaded until you're ready to use it. Here in the range, your gun should be unloaded until you're ready to shoot. At the same time, always assume the gun is loaded. Even if you just took the ammo out. Don't point your weapon at anyone, ever, and make sure when you're loading or unloading, that the gun isn't unintentionally pointing at someone else."
"This," she said, turning the gun to demonstrate, "is what's called the safety. The safety needs to be on, even if you've unloaded the gun, even if you're just walking over to the target. Loading the gun and taking the safety off should be last two things you do before firing, and unloading and putting it back on need to be the first two things you do when you're done."
"So." Elena nodded to the group. "For this week's activity, first, go over there and read the rules. Even if you just read them on your way in. Humor me. Then: pair up. Show someone else your weapon's safety mechanism, and how to turn it off and on. Also show them that your weapon is unloaded. If the weapon you brought with you doesn't have a safety on it, then borrow one of the ones provided here. Then we can get to the fun part, actually shooting. Sound good?"

And showed her his gun. Not dirty. Safety on!

She cleared her throat. "It's not a toy," she said coldly. "Handle your weapon responsibly, or leave."
This was non-negotiable.
(OOC: no, seriously, she will kick him out)

It should be noted that, loaded or not, one of the rules of the range was very clearly written; Always treat the gun as loaded.
Jack was officially In Shit.

Please see the above Re: The rules were clearly posted.
And Algren was never the sort of man to take backtalk from anybody. He'd been shot too many times to allow anyone to behave, even for a moment, as though time spent in the shooting range was anything less serious than a privilege that could be taken away at the first sign of disrespect.

"Children."
Re: Activity: Read the Rules, then Show Off Your Safety
"Sorry?" she said. "Or, uh, thank you. Sir."
Something in there. She wasn't sure why she was apologizing, exactly. It just seemed like she should.
Re: Activity: Read the Rules, then Show Off Your Safety
The going was slow. He'd been on the receiving end of too many guns all at once to make anything ever resembling a casual motion, anymore.
"You haven't got anything to be sorry for," he replied. "Actually, I ought to commend you for making certain that your classmates are aware that the range has rules. And for good reason."
Re: Activity: Read the Rules, then Show Off Your Safety
She paused, still chewing her lip, before blurting out, "I feel a bit like a hypocrite. If I have my weapon and I'm not at the range, it's probably loaded. I just unload it again once I get here to follow the rules."
And, well, that bit about cutting corners when you were too sure of yourself had largely been to remind herself that just because she trusted herself with a gun didn't mean she could give herself a pass on the details.
Re: Activity: Read the Rules, then Show Off Your Safety
When he had a gun on him, nowadays, he had it for a reason. That helped, some.
Re: Activity: Read the Rules, then Show Off Your Safety
There were serious advantages to the Turk uniforms. You could hide all sorts of weapons without raising an eye. Civilian clothes made it harder.
"Do you think we should cover sharpshooting, one week? Sniper rifles, long-distance and high accuracy, that kind of thing?"

Someone had definite opinions on the matter.
That accomplished, she sat down and proceeded to dismantle her Samsonovs. If anyone wanted to pair up with her to discuss safety, that was fine, but Makita needed to take care of her babies first and foremost.
Shooting!
Talk to Captain Algren
Re: Talk to Captain Algren
He was there to keep the students from killing one another. He wouldn't hesitate to forcibly eject them from the range if they weren't being cooperative.
