School Grounds [Tuesday, Early Evening]
Having her day kicked off being presented with her very own squalling droid baby was hardly a fortuitous start of anything as far as Effy was concerned, and being cooped up indoors (or anywhere she could be found to have it handed back to her) somehow wasn't an option that appealed.
The fog out here might be creepy and unnatural, but then, to a certain extent so was she. Anyway, there was something about the atmosphere of it that intrigued her even while it gave her shivers, and so she'd taken herself for a bit of a walk in the grey and quickly fading light. Wasn't intending on staying out much after dark, because even she'd seen a few good zombie flicks, but until then she might as well make the most of a little fresh air.
Fresh, heavily fogged air.
[[Expecting one, buuuut it can be open before that, I suppose!]]

Baaaaad timing.

She wouldn't admit it, but did let out a short breath of relief to see Leda, and tipped her head in a sort of greeting. For the moment, she saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"Nice evening for it," she added dryly after a moment, pulling back her composure. Just lovely wasn't it?
no subject
Her one concession to the actual spookiness of the evening was to move closer to Effy.
no subject
"Feel like we should be able to touch it," she commented stretching her hand out as if to test that theory. It was so thick, and the way it hung in the air.
no subject
Closer still, since it was spooky, and now she was remembering being afraid of the woods when she'd first arrived. Safety in numbers right?

Something wasn't right, and the tendrils of fear and confusion were fast starting to snake their way into her mind and take hold.
The shapes she was seeing now didn't fit with what she'd seen even a few moments before and she quickly recoiled, struggling to refocus the misshapen monstrous image into something that made sense again. Into Leda.
"That's wrong." Because saying it and shaking her head was sure to help her force her vision back to rights. It had to.
no subject
"Effy what's wrong?" she asked anxiously, stepping even closer, her side to the girl, looking alternately at her and into the fog.
no subject
"You!" The words were beginning into indistinct snarls, but before that she pulled together enough to understand. It. That couldn't be a who.
Effy threw out a hand, as if to ward the monster she could see back and away from her.
no subject
"Get back inside!" she said.

The hand that grabbed her didn't match with anything she saw or heard, and in her confusion Effy lashed out, trying to get it to let go, the spike of fear overriding any reasonable thought.
The sounds only made it worse, crowding in her head and her hands went to her temples, as she tried to move away. Normally her 'flight' response would've kicked in, but everything was foggy, including her mind and it tinted any sensible reflexes she'd normally follow.
no subject
She ran up to Effy, thinking...what? Again try to get her to go back to the dorms? Shake some sense into her? Leda no longer knew.
But Leda was starting to freak out herself.
no subject
"Leda?" Effy struggled, stumbling backwards to try and get away as she called for the other girl, not realising she was right in front of her.

Wait, Effy's teeth didn't used to be that pointy did they.
"Wha...you're not Effy!" She probably should have run. But instead she went to grab the thing with both hands. "What are you? What'd you do with Effy!" The thing's face began to shift, growing scales, becoming reptilian.

"Where's Effy?!" she shouted, trying to hold it down. Maybe she should call for help.
no subject
Finding nothing she tried bringing her knee up to try and kick the thing off her so she could move.

It was with some relief she closed her fingers around something hard. A rock large enough to do some damage and maybe get her out of this nightmare. Didn't really think much about finesse as she grasped at it desperately, smacking it into whatever part of the thing she could reach.

"Fu-"

The image of it blurred, almost reshaping into something human before it merged back into a mass of limbs and body parts that shouldn't have been put together, but had.
This would be about the point for her to be getting the fuck out of here and away from that thing while it was down. Flight response firmly in gear now.
