Roof | Late Afternoon | Tuesday | March 30

Since it was safe to go out on the roof this week, that's exactly where Alex was and planned on being for awhile. He had a full pack of cigarettes and a half a bottle of something that definitely wasn't water. That was sitting at his feet though since he was currently laying on his back on the edge of the roof, cigarette stuck between his lips as he stared up at the cloudy sky.

He wasn't brooding (despite someone else's thoughts to the contrary) because brooding involved thinking and Alex's brain was blissfully devoid of any thoughts right now. Just a happy buzzing and some pleasant fuzz. He needed to feel like this more often.

Relaxation totally counted as a strenuous activity. He wasn't Rose, he didn't feel the need to train all damn day just to garner the attention of someone he liked. And he wasn't nearly as short and stout as she was. For that, he was pretty damn grateful.

[first, the roof is open! second, there were no dorms post yesterday so i had to make up for that! third, i told [livejournal.com profile] guardianborn i was gonna retaliate for her post and la.]

Roof was a great place for that sort of thing, wasn't it. Something about the height and the views that came with that, even on grey days like today.

It wasn't exactly a huge shock for Effy to find Alex up here. Tempting as it was to turn around and avoid knowing what he'd seen from her last week, she managed to resist that, stepping closer.

"Don't roll over."

He certainly was. Plus she'd miss him if he made himself a smear on the paving below. Effy tipped her head in a sort of acknowledging greeting as she moved over to stand by the edge. "Hey." Good with the monosyllables.

By now it was really only in how casually she was dressed, and the way she'd left the natural wave in her hair that people might know anything had been off. After a week like last week, much of what she normally did felt like a lot of fucking effort she didn't need.

So, back to basics.

"Griff." Obviously. "I was a nice quiet kid." One of those universal constants.

Well, maybe 'nice' was the wrong word. But she was quiet.

With fog and GODZILLA out there last week. Yeah, no chance. Besides that, she wasn't completely fucking nuts, and knew it was a robot who didn't give two shits where she took it.

"Watched some basketball. Took him to Eurodisney." Least classes had been interesting. "Lucky kid."

Effy twitched briefly amused eyebrows and eyed the bottle. "How much of that have you had?" Because when someone couldn't remember yesterday, the answer was probably 'enough'.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-30 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
And he managed to fuck up his own lie. Even if she hadn't seen through it saying he wasn't drunk yet was a bit of a dead giveaway.

"We've got a few. Creepy costumed people aren't the domain of the US alone." Unfortunately.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-30 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that wasn't it, but luckily enough, Effy didn't care much either.

"It shut up long enough not to give me a headache?" Which was progress, considering what a pain that fake kid had been. "Wasn't really in the theme park mood."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-30 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, as far as Effy was concerned, they could go on avoiding, and go on avoiding, thanks. The cigarettes at least did give her something else to focus on as she shrugged as casually as she could and kept her eyes on them, and off Alex.

"Fan-fucking-tastic." What? He'd expected a truthful, non-sarcastic answer the first time around? "You?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, yeah, she had nothing, so it took a few long seconds of thinking for her to pull a few somethings out of the air.

"Didn't get eaten by a Gigantosaurus on the weekend. Handed off the droid this morning. Got a cigarette now." It was something.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-30 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Whoops?" Considering what'd been going around 'whoops' felt rather casual. Presumably, intentionally so.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
"So," she said, and cocked her head as she looked at him. "What else goes on that list?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Thrilling," she commented, closing her eyes as she inhaled. Few hours without and at class, that felt pretty good. "Aren't you just a man of action."

Focusing on dryly teasing him, rather than thinking about the amount of time he'd spent dealing with her last week worked for her.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Felt almost like it wouldn't," she said, glancing out towards the distance thoughtfully. "End."

"But everything has to eventually, right?"
