Third Floor Common Room [Brunch Time]

Joan hadn't been terribly surprised to be woken up by a child this morning. She was kind of glad it was a child she recognized, even though she was mildly disappointed that she didn't seem to have a future child with her boyfriend.

Then again, she was grateful it wasn't the kid with the wings to give her tiny heart attacks all weekend.

Jared was starving so she led him down to the common room and started making pancakes, figuring there might be other folks in a similar situation.

Hoshi had been mildly surprised not to have any little visitors, this morning. She debated staying in her room, but decided to head out in search of food. A little dose of gossip wouldn't hurt, either.

"Hey Joan," she said, smiling. "I see you have a visitor."

Jared had a huge stack of pancakes in front of him. "Hi, Hoshi!" he said, though it was muffled by the mouthful of pancakes he was eating.

"Don't talk with your mouth full," Joan admonished. "Morning, Hoshi. Want some pancakes?"

"Pancakes sound great!" said Hoshi, smiling. "I waited around in my room for a little while but no one showed up. Guess I'm off the hook this year."

"My father," a very short little girl with no hair and an intricately pleated dress snarled despite having only one facial expression, "is a...a...bloody idiot."

"I wouldn't mind having kids show up, but it may be less awkward if they aren't my kids with someone else," said Hoshi. "Hurley and I had a great time at the prom."

"I remember Jess. Didn't get to know him too well, but he seemed like a nice guy," said Hoshi, smiling at Jared.

Turning back to Joan, she added, "Hurley K-I-S-S-E-D me last night."

"The Emperor," she replied helpfully, examining her long lacquered fingernails.

"The Seanchan," she replied, looking bemused. "Everyone knows that."

"It was great!" said Hoshi, beaming. "It took a while, but I think we both finally got past all the stuff that was keeping us apart."

Well, maybe not all the issues that kept them apart, but Hoshi wasn't going to worry about that today.

"Don't call me sweetie," she demanded. "I'm the Daughter of the Nine Moons. And he has many names. And titles."

Most of which he hated.

"Matrim," she finally said. "His first name is Matrim."

"It completely caught me by surprise, but it was a good surprise," said Hoshi.

"No, I have had an audience with him already," she sniffed. "He is lying in bed. Still."

"Yes," she said, glad to have found at least one useful person in this place, even if it was one with an unnatural habit of making eye contact with her.

The Seanchan were big on groveling.

"I take it Liir hasn't returned yet?" asked Hoshi. "He's been gone for a while, hasn't he?"

Joan turned back to the stove and Jared, who had been listening quietly to the strange girl talk to his mom, finally spoke up.

"Wanna color with me?" he asked.
