Third Floor Common Room [Brunch Time]

Joan hadn't been terribly surprised to be woken up by a child this morning. She was kind of glad it was a child she recognized, even though she was mildly disappointed that she didn't seem to have a future child with her boyfriend.

Then again, she was grateful it wasn't the kid with the wings to give her tiny heart attacks all weekend.

Jared was starving so she led him down to the common room and started making pancakes, figuring there might be other folks in a similar situation.

"You did? That's awesome!"

Joan was still a little sad that Liir hadn't made it back.

"Jared's dad is Jess Mariano. He graduated last year."

"I remember Jess. Didn't get to know him too well, but he seemed like a nice guy," said Hoshi, smiling at Jared.

Turning back to Joan, she added, "Hurley K-I-S-S-E-D me last night."

Jared grinned back but he was too busy stuffing his face with pancakes to say more.

Joan, on the other hand, turned and gave Hoshi a smirk. "Ooooh really? And how was that?"

"It was great!" said Hoshi, beaming. "It took a while, but I think we both finally got past all the stuff that was keeping us apart."

Well, maybe not all the issues that kept them apart, but Hoshi wasn't going to worry about that today.

Joan suspected she knew what at least one of those things was, but decided not to mention it. She grinned. "I'm glad. You guys both deserve to be happy."

"It completely caught me by surprise, but it was a good surprise," said Hoshi.

"Sounds like it," Joan agreed, flipping the pancakes.

"I take it Liir hasn't returned yet?" asked Hoshi. "He's been gone for a while, hasn't he?"

Joan bit her lip and nodded. "Yeah. I... I'm worried. I haven't heard from him."

"It's got to be tough," said Hoshi, concerned for both Joan and Liir.

At that point, Joan noticed that Jared was paying more attention to their conversation than his pancakes. Given that she was married to his daddy in his world, she didn't think this was a conversation to have in front of him.

So she forced a small smile. "I'm sure it'll be just fine."

"Things usually work out for the best," said Hoshi, doing her best to reassure Joan.
