Front Lawn, Saturday morning

Prom had been awesome, and Dinah didn't have a hangover, so she'd woken up early and headed out for her morning run, then ended up on the lawn, going through katas instead of in the gym. Too nice a day to stay inside!

Funny, there were other people who'd agree.

[yup, for kidlets, but open for anyone not related too]

"Awww." Look, he wasn't made of steel, here. "And what does a special helper get to do, Charlotte?"

... Warren seriously had no idea. He'd never exactly had the opportunity to achieve 'special helper' status in a school before.

"Tell everyone to line up and I got to change the day on the calender," she said importantly. "It's a big job."

"Well, of course it is," Warren replied, bending over a little to offer her a smile. "Those calendar days aren't going to change themselves, right?"

"And how else is everyone gonna know when it's Tuesday?" Charlotte pointed out solemnly.

"They'd totally have to guess," Warren reasoned. "And if that happened, it would probably be a disaster. People thinking that it's Wednesday and Saturday and payday and pyjama day, everywhere you look."

"That's why special helper is important!" Charlotte agreed, bouncing a little. "But it's not special like how school is special, 'cause school is special 'cause it's for people who are different. Daddy and you went to my school 'cause we're all different and special!"

Charlotte really liked that word. That, and her mother had pretty much drilled it into her head, since Sookie had wished someone had used 'special' to describe what she could do when she was little.

"Aaah, so you're going to Xavier's school?" It only stood to reason, didn't it? And Warren wouldn't do something like mention that he hadn't actually gone to Xavier's school, because for all he knew, Bobby's Warren could be a star pupil or something.

Alternate realities were so confusing.

"And it's going well for you, I hope?"

"Yeah, I got to be special helper." Oh god, the endless cycle of small children's stories. Thankfully, Charlotte interrupted her own train of thought with, "Can we go flying?"

This was totally going to be the refrain of the day, Warren was certain.

And it was an excuse to show off his wings, and to get up in the air. He was so not complaining.

"Promise to hold on tight and not to squirm?"

[identity profile] liliceflakes.livejournal.com 2010-04-10 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes yes yes!" Charlotte squealed, bouncing up and down with delight at the very idea. "Yes please, I mean."

Warren was going to find that it would be practically impossible to say no to any kid asking for a flight this weekend. Because... Awwww.

'Awwwww,' the new mental mantra of the Worthington.

He bent over and picked her up, giving her a grin. "And good manners, too! Your parents taught you well, Charlotte."

[identity profile] liliceflakes.livejournal.com 2010-04-10 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mommy says that bad manners are the easiest way for people to ignore you," Charlotte recited, clinging tight. "Yay yay yay flying!"

"Yay, yay, yay flying," Warren agreed with a laugh. "Now, the most important question. Do you want a running start, or should I just jump straight up?"

[identity profile] liliceflakes.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Just straight up! I'm brave," she told him.

"You certainly are," Warren replied, bending at the knees again. "On the count of three, okay? Ready... One, two, and three!"

And up, up, up they went!

Not ridicuously high, or anything. High enough that he could land on the roof if he wanted to. But it was still flying, and that was totally good enough.
