Dorm lawn [early afternoon]

Juliet was happily sticking her foot into her mouth on a blanket as Anakin and her (younger, at least theoretically) brother Christopher raced around on the lawn. The little boy squealed loudly as Anakin caught him and tossed him into the air, using the Force to make him hover for a moment.

"Again!"

"Say please," Anakin replied.

"Peas!"

"Close enough."

And being on campus meant that Anakin had put his lightsaber into the weapons locker. And he won't kill people in front of his kids! Come play Jedi tag!

"You always say that!" Jaina pouted. "I know patience! I'm very patient!" Except not.

Anakin laughed. "No you're not," he said, knowing that to be true. "But all right. Go find a rock."

Jedi training was odd.

Jaina scurried off and returned shortly with a rock the size of her fist. "Is this good?" she said. "Or bigger?"

"That's good," Anakin said. "Now close your eyes and try to find the rock in the Force."

She set the rock down and settled on the ground, closing her eyes. "It's right there!" she said, pointing right where she had set it down. Because she knew it was there.

Anakin reached out and moved it. "Now where?"

"You just moved it, didn't you?" Jaina said, keeping her eyes screwed shut. But she concentrated, trying to sense where the rock was now. "There," she said, pointing.

"Good," Anakin said, moving it again. "It would hardly be training if it stayed where you put it, now would it?"

"What does finding rocks have to do with being a Jedi?" Jaina said, trying very hard not to let it sound like a whine. She pointed to the rock in its new location, though truthfully she was more sensing the movement of her grandfather's arm than the movement of the rock.

Anakin moved the rock with the Force this time, putting it behind Jaina. "Because everything is connected," he lectured. "The Force is in everything, and a Jedi learn how to work with the Force."

He smiled. "And rocks are easy to find."

Cheater.

Her brow furrowed with concentration as she tried harder to feel out the rock. It took her a little longer to find it this time, but finally she realized it was behind her. "There!" she said triumphantly, twisting her body to point behind her.

"Very good," Anakin praised, sending a wave of assurance toward her through the Force. "Now try to lift it. No hands."

Jaina beamed. "I can do that!" she said. She practiced that a lot because her dad liked it when she levitated little things for him. She floated the rock back around in front of her, making it hover just over her head.

"Very good," Anakin said. "Can you lift two at once?"

"Ummmmm," Jaina said. She looked around to find another rock, then tried to lift it while keeping the one she had already levitated up in the air. The first rock started to plummet when the second rock rose from the ground, but she caught it and kept it up, though both rocks were only inches from the ground now.

"It's hard," Anakin admitted. "Why don't you work on that for your next lesson?"

Jaina had been holding her breath as she concentrated, and now she let it out and dropped the rocks back to the ground. "I will," she promised. "Then can I have a lightsaber? Pleeeeease?"

"Are you ten yet?" Anakin asked.

"Almoooooooooooost," Jaina said. "But I can already move stuff, like I showed you! And other stuff!"

"I was ten when I got my first lightsaber," Anakin said, "so that's how old you have to be. It wasn't until I was thirteen that I built my own."

"Then will you give me one for my birthday?" Jaina said. "Dad can't because he doesn't have any and I don't know if Mom will be here but you can!"

"We'll see," Anakin said with a grin. "You have to practice very hard."

"I will! Promise!" Jaina said excitedly. "I'll practice everything!" Especially Jedi mind tricks because those were fun.

"Good," Anakin said. "Now give me a hug and try not to traumatize too many people."

Jaina flung her arms around Anakin. "I'll try," she promised. "I love you, Grandpa!"
