4th Floor Common Room, Wednesday Morning

Another day, another... session of staring at the TV while it played motorcross repeats from Precursors know when. Jak was getting bored again, which meant he was five minutes from heading back to Haven to yell at Torn and maybe get a mission out of it.

But that could come later.

Right now, it was motors. And a bag of chips. Jak was a simple man.

In an effort to appear more social, Jonas was actually out of his room and on another floor. He could have easily just gone outside and found a quiet place to read but he was trying.

"Whatever you're watching sounds loud," he remarked idly as he wandered in. "Which necessarily isn't a bad thing. Just an observation. Good morning."

"I'm not familiar with the sport," he explained, shrugging one shoulder at the answer. "Or many sports. This is some sort of race, I'm guessing?"

He was full of helpful clarifications today.

And Jonas was getting used to things like that. At least he didn't immediately start to apologize for something he had no control over. Jak probably would have made a face at that too.

"It's not something I'm familiar with," he explained but he found his eyes drawn to the television anyway. "Is it something you do? The motorbike racing?"

"I'd probably injure myself if I tried," he shared even if Jak hadn't asked. "We only had bicycles where I'm from."

Well and airplanes to search for those that tried to escape but Jonas never knew who was piloting those. It was never an Assignment at the Ceremonies.

"Are you able to keep up the hobby here?" he asked, curious.

Jonas asked a lot of questions. He couldn't help but that but he wasn't completely unobservant. Sometimes, he knew when the questions weren't wanted. He couldn't help the curiosity.

"I don't know if this place would be big enough for any sort of real race," he said, eyes going back to the television. "From what I've seen, there's not a lot of open space. Unless you're on the beach, I suppose. The sand might be difficult to navigate there."

"Rickshaws," he said, pulling the word from somewhere deep within his memory banks. He nodded at the television. "You think you could race a rickshaw like this?"

[identity profile] see-beyond.livejournal.com 2010-04-21 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Can they?" Jonas really couldn't help that curiosity because he hadn't seen them going anything but slow and steady. "I suppose it would depend on the driver, mostly. Most rickshaws I've seen don't seem to have the...ability to go faster than a jog."

"And you don't seem like the type to demonstrate," Jonas said, half smiling. "Not one to share your skills, so to speak."

Tara had padded upstairs in hopes there were some toaster waffles somewhere on the island. (Okay. Toaster waffles she wouldn't have to leave campus or pay money to get.)

There weren't any on her floor, so she'd gone up a floor to raid the freezer there. "Oh, hey," she said as she entered the room, making herself ignore Jak's throbbing aura. "Racing?"

Tara waggled her fingers in a wave at Jonas once her waffles had been located and placed in the toaster.

"Morning, Jonas. How's it going?"

[identity profile] see-beyond.livejournal.com 2010-04-21 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's going pretty well," he answered, returning her wave with one of his own. "How about yourself? Are you dealing with final examinations all right?"
life_inshadow: ([neu] a little jaded)

Tara nodded. "The only bad one was monomyths. W-we had to talk in front of class," she said, with a special horror. "I still have modeling tomorrow, but ... I dunno. That's like a special parallel dimension of crazy."

She reached into the fridge for syrup. "How were yours?"

"It would give you someone to race against," Jonas pointed out, shrugging. "And someone to beat, if you're good at something such as rickshaw racing. Bragging rights and the like."

Human nature was still largely a mystery but people seemed to enjoy their power, momentary or not.

"They went well," Jonas said, nodding. "I think I'm still exhausted from Professor Bond's. It was a lengthy obstacle course that included a run around the entire island. My legs are still sore every so often. I don't know if I'll take that one again."
life_inshadow: ([neu] pigtails - really?)

"Waffles," Tara nodded, gesturing to the toaster.

And then she had to break that beautiful one-word-sentence thing. "There aren't any on my floor, so ... waffles here. And racing."
