Fifth Floor Common Room - Late Thursday Night

The TV was blaring some infomercial about some stupid egg-cracking device because apparently cracking eggs was too hard for people.

Kyle, however, wasn't paying much attention to it. He was very, very wired from too much caffeine today and as such was highly strung and focusing on constructing a small town that looked a lot like Fandom (only with primary colors) with some Lego blocks he'd found in one of the storage closets.

There was room on the floor for plenty more buildings though.

Rose was bored as hell. She was also totally freaking tired and trying hard not to sleep in case Dimitri's phone rang and she needed to actually be the guardian she said she was. Not that this was a normal guarding situation at all.

In interests of staying awake, Rose - with Dimitri the bear cub on her shoulder - made her way out and up to the Common Room with someone in it.

"The crap are you doing, Tiny?" she asked, stopping at the couch to study the lego map. "If that's Fandom, I think the buildings aren't red."

"There weren't enough brown pieces," Kyle replied, looking up for a moment before concentrating again. "I was going to go with blue, but I wanted to save that for the pond. Is that a bear?"

She sank onto the ground by him, leaning over into the couch so Dimitri could scramble off her shoulder onto the seat. He refused though and leaned against the side of the couch, still ensconced on her.

"You make it red and green, and it's Christmas Island," she said lightly. "Yeah, it's a bear. Watch out, he's got sharp teeth." There was a little glare.

"As long as he won't kill me, I don't care." Kyle set aside what he was working on and picked up another half-done set of blocks. "It's supposed to be Fandom. Sort of. It's not to scale. What are you doing with a bear?"

"Yeah, well, I thought you'd gone out and measured all the buildings to make it perfect," she snarked. "Now I'm disappointed." Rose chuckled as Dimitri started climbing down the side of the couch. "That's the Russian cowboy."

That made Kyle look up. He eyed the bear for a few moments. "He's going to hate everything when he's human again."

"Personal experience?" she teased, glancing up at Kyle.

"No," he admitted. "But think about it. Can't hold anything, can't get very far, food probably tastes weird and can't talk to anyone." He was engrossed in his block building and talking fast enough that it sounded vaguely like babbling.

"He can hold things," Rose said wryly, eyeing the bear as he reached to pick up a lego to try to gnaw on it. "I think he's just pissed that he's tiny."

"He's really tiny. Enjoy the change of perspective," he said directly to the bear. "You'll be insanely tall again soon." Then he looked at Rose. "So you're on your own now?"

The bear looked up at the Kyle's voice, trying to reply in his snuffling way. Then he heard the rest of the comment and dropped the lego, growling.

Rose rolled her eyes a little since Dimitri could see her. "That's what it looks like, huh?" She reached in her hoodie pocket, checking again to make sure the cell phone was there. "At least until he's insanely tall again."

"Growling only makes you look cute. It's not intimidating," he told Dimitri the bear. "And don't eat the blocks. They'll get stuck in your windpipe. You going to actually sleep or only pretend to?" The last question was for Rose.

Dimitri had not been planning on eating the blocks. Just gnaw on them a little. But then the tiny boy had insulted him.

Poor choice.

The wee bear reared back on its hind legs with tiny flailing arms and an absurd sort of ROAR. Fear him.

Kyle tensed up for a split second before he remembered that the bear wasn't a threat. "I think he's trying to say 'screw you, I'm a bear.' Point taken." Weetiny bears weren't scary after dealing with a fully grown one. "But if I find any blocks missing, I'm blaming you."

"Yeah, I don't think that's all he's trying to say," Rose said, trying to swallow her laughter. It wasn't really working so well. "People don't usually call him cute."

She was ready to grab Dimka if she had to, but she hadn't reached forward yet.

"He's not going to eat the blocks. Just taste 'em a little. Like he's been doing to all my stuff for the past two days."

Rose was thrilled with that.

"I'm not really into bear drool," Kyle said, leaving the bear to it. "And you didn't answer my question."

Rose glanced down at the bear, her eyes fond as she reached out to brush her fingers down his back. She was pretty sure it wasn't the bear drool he'd been reacting to, no.

"Can't sleep. Adrian might call," she replied. "And Dimitri's - um, indisposed. So I'm on call if he has to go out."

"You're that heavy of a sleeper?"

She made a face at him, getting up to head to the kitchen. "Want something to drink?" Rose didn't wait for the reply as she pulled out two cans of Coke and brought them back.

"S'not how it's done. Most guardians just adopt their Moroi's schedule, but not really possible here."

"Yeah," he said anyway once she was back, holding up a hand to take the can from her. "At least it's not sentry duty. Going without sleep is hard, but it's worse when all you're doing is looking out at the dark. Here," he gestured to the blocks, "I can do something. When do you get to sleep?"

Rose gave him the can, checking back on Dimka who'd wandered off to check out the interesting clutter under the couch.

"We run patrols at day mostly. Night would be worse" she admitted. She curled up against the couch, reaching to grab a handful of legos. "He won't go out once it gets too near dawn." Which meant a hour or two before her first exam. Good plan for the day.

"If you want back-up, I'll be here." He opened the can and guzzled half of its contents. "Building this."

There was a warm smile for the offer. "I don't do this, I can't protect Lissa later," Rose said. "But thanks. I'll remember it."

She dropped the legos in her lap, starting to put some together. "How big you going with this?"

"I don't know," he admitted. "I was going to keep going until I ran out of blocks and couldn't find any more."

Dimka-the-bear was licking his paws as he clambered out from under the couch and flopped down over Rose's feet. The paw-licking turned to chewing on the hems of her jeans almost immediately.

"Find more like without buying them?" Rose asked, making a little stack. "Cause you can probably get tons at T&C."
