Katchoo being shorter than Francine wasn't new; Katchoo being this much shorter than Francine was.

Also not new: Francine feeding people, where for the time being the term 'people' encompassed her tiny four-year-old roommate-slash-girlfriend, currently plunked down three feet in front of the TV and flipping through the channels because nobody wanted her anywhere near the food preparation. That remote control might get thrown sometime soon.

Why?

"STUPID GOLF! I WANNA WATCH SOMETHING ELSE!"

Because of that.

This could get messy, and that was even before the food.

"I'm C-Chloe," she offered shyly.

Boys made her nervous, too, so they already had something in common.

"'m Dan," he said. Woo, remembered his name! "Am I allowed to be in here?"

He had been kicked out of a lot of playgroups before. Even as a child he wasn't cool enough to hang around Upper East Siders.

"I am?" Wow, that was quick. Maybe he was getting better at this speaking thing. "Thank you!"

For her part, she was surprised how easy it had been to make friends. She usually had a much harder time of it.

"They're m-making spaghetti for dinner."

"That's what that loud girl said," Dan said. "I like s'ghetti. I eat it a lot."

That's because that and waffles were the only thing your dad could cook, Dan.

"Spaghetti is very good," she agreed. "And c-colorful."

Yep, even at five, Chloe liked colorful things.

Dan nodded in agreement. "My sister likes to throw it at the walls and make them colorful."

Such a rebel, Jenny Humphrey was.

Here eyes widened.

"Don't your m-mommy and d-daddy get m-mad?"

Dan shook his head. "No. They just think she's expressing herself."

"Like an artist?"

Because the TV always said artists were expressing themselves.

Dan nodded. "My mom's an artist and my dad's a rock star."

"Rock stars are cool and artists are pretty."
