Mat didn't have much time left to appreciate all of the modern conveniences of this time and place, so he was taking full advantage by turning on the television (some guy with horribly dyed hair was talking about how everything was "money". It still looked like food to Mat) and making himself some food.

Well, setting popcorn on fire in the microwave. Someone save him from himself, please?

"Gee, what a prize," Hayley said, dripping with sarcasm. She finally checked the fridge, having successfully scrounged up the ingredients to make a grilled cheese sandwich. "Ain't gonna do me much good as a graduate."

"Well, it's portable," Mat said. "What would you prefer?"

"Oh yeah?" Hayley said, finding the frying pan and placing it on the stove. "But gratitude isn't as substantial as owin' a girl a favor. But that might be a bit steep of a price for ya."

"I think it depends on how good a cook you are," he teased.

"Well gee, if you say that, I guess I'll settle for a thank you," she said, turning on the burner. "Otherwise I might not get anything at all!"
