"Hey, guys," said Zack once people seemed more or less assembled for today's reserves meeting. "Since we're working on getting involved in some more in-depth exercises in the future, I thought that maybe keeping it simple today would be for the best. You more or less know one another by now, I think, but do you know how the other people here in the group work?" He grinned a bit, and then shrugged. "Unarmed sparring. Grab a partner and go at it. Don't do anything to seriously hurt your partner, though. I want to see you going for grabs and holds and light contact, but not force. We want our crew in one piece, here. And if someone does get hurt, come see me. I have potions, or else I can help haul your butt to the clinic."

The look that he was wearing was one of those very serious looks that suggested that he would be very displeased if it came down to hauling anyone's butt to the clinic, okay. And considering the bouncy puppy that he was a semester ago, it probably seemed all the more severe if you happened to know Zack.

"Before we get started, I want to announce the other two leaders who will be stepping up to help me lead the group. Jak and Kennedy both have some excellent ideas about further training exercises, and they've both agreed to take leadership roles here, and so if you see them be sure to give them a pat on the back, or at least a little respect, okay?"

Whatever your idea of respect was.

Juice and cookies! ... They're a Reserves staple, okay? To keep your strength up while sparring.

... Pretty self-explanatory. Just keep in mind that we're not going for concussions, here. We're going for light contact, to get a feel for how your partner moves, or, alternatively, how you move. This stuff will probably come in handy in future exercises. Feel free to critique your partner's form.

Zack was actually looking kind of anxious today as he supervised the group. Possibly because he was hovering like a hawk to be certain that nobody was getting hurt, and partly because... Well, he sort of wanted to spar, too.

Brain. I cannot has.

As usual, I'll be around to catch pings when I get home from work!

Jak was about.

Jak also looked a little antsy in a laid-back kind of way, but he usually did, these days.

Gunn stood towards the back of the group and skipped the juice. However, the cookies were a completely different matter.

One might wonder why Dandelion was showing up to the military reserves group today.

Of course in her mind the fact that she's authorized to use DEADLY FORCE might have something to do with it.

Oh, look. That would be Dandelion going in for a tackle-glomping thing.

"Zack! Big brother!" she exclaimed.

Ino was... up in her tree. With her eyes closed.

What?

She was awake and listening.

And down from the tree she came to look for a partner. Even if she did make a face at the restrictions.

Kennedy wasn't leaning back against the wall or a tree or anything like she'd gotten in the habit of doing, though she did have one thumb hooked into her pants pocket in her habitual pose as she occasionally paced along the area to keep an eye on how everyone was doing.

She looked a little twitchy, since she wanted to spar as much as the guys did, but-- yeah, let's face it. A touch smug, too. That was just what you got with this one. Sorry, everyone.

Last meeting was great and there was a constant supply of juice and cookies. Plus, really learning more about kicking ass was great, there was something she could show Negi back home!

"Hello, Kennedy-san!" Asuna said, offering a friendly smile. "You're in the self-defense class with Faith-sensei too, right?"

Goose was once again standing at the back of the crowd and watching what was going on around him.

Kennedy at least recognized the words; her Watcher was one of the ones who insisted on using traditional terminology during training, and that had included a crash course on the Japanese honorifics. Kennedy didn't have much patience with them herself but hey, at least she wasn't completely confused.

"Hey," she answered with an easy smile of her own. "Yeah, that's me. Asuna, right?"

Asuna nodded, "I am. Would you prefer I just call you Kennedy?"

She's getting a lot of practice not adding honorifics to the name.

"That is ~~all the name I have augh~~ my name," Kennedy replied lightly, "but hey, whatever works for you, I'm cool with it. Unless what works for you is, like, 'dumbass' or something, that I'm not so cool with," she concluded, grinning.

Tahiri helped herself to a few cookies and some juice, both eyebrows shooting up at the mention of the new reserves leaders. Jak would be . . . interesting, as a choice.

As for the other one? Tahiri was just going to take this as a long-term lesson in self-control. As in, it was going to be an exercise in keeping herself from wanting to smack Kennedy every week.

Well, that'd be useful at least.

"Kennedy works," Asuna replied. "And no name calling from me! Unless you start calling me violent monkey or something like that then I might throw out a Japanese version of 'dumbass'. I can get creative with Japanese insults."

But this was said with a grin.

Asuna set out stretching and prepared herself. She also made a mental note to watch her strength it wouldn't do to send someone flying accidentally.

Asuna looked up in the tree and blinked. Someone was sleeping on one of the branches. She wondered if the girl knew there was a meeting here?

"And I am all about creative insults, so I might have to hit you up for a few of those sometime," Kennedy replied.

Pause.

"Not to use on you guys." Hopefully.

"Can I help you?" she asked archly, when Ino realized someone was looking her way.

"Uh, no, sorry!" Asuna scratched her cheek. "I was just curious why you were up there."
