"Hey, guys," said Zack once people seemed more or less assembled for today's reserves meeting. "Since we're working on getting involved in some more in-depth exercises in the future, I thought that maybe keeping it simple today would be for the best. You more or less know one another by now, I think, but do you know how the other people here in the group work?" He grinned a bit, and then shrugged. "Unarmed sparring. Grab a partner and go at it. Don't do anything to seriously hurt your partner, though. I want to see you going for grabs and holds and light contact, but not force. We want our crew in one piece, here. And if someone does get hurt, come see me. I have potions, or else I can help haul your butt to the clinic."

The look that he was wearing was one of those very serious looks that suggested that he would be very displeased if it came down to hauling anyone's butt to the clinic, okay. And considering the bouncy puppy that he was a semester ago, it probably seemed all the more severe if you happened to know Zack.

"Before we get started, I want to announce the other two leaders who will be stepping up to help me lead the group. Jak and Kennedy both have some excellent ideas about further training exercises, and they've both agreed to take leadership roles here, and so if you see them be sure to give them a pat on the back, or at least a little respect, okay?"

Whatever your idea of respect was.

Tahiri helped herself to a few cookies and some juice, both eyebrows shooting up at the mention of the new reserves leaders. Jak would be . . . interesting, as a choice.

As for the other one? Tahiri was just going to take this as a long-term lesson in self-control. As in, it was going to be an exercise in keeping herself from wanting to smack Kennedy every week.

Well, that'd be useful at least.

Ben arched up an eyebrow at Tahiri. Jak?

Tahiri kept her expression as neutral as possible, and shrugged at him; she had no idea what he knew, so it wasn't really hers to tell. Looks like, huh? This is going to be a very different sort of Reserves this year, I bet.

They all seem to embrace the idea of electricity and not using spears, Ben replied, mental voice teasing.

Does this mean I won't get looked at quite as funny if I volunteer my X-Wing for things? That was Tahiri teasing right back, mostly because it meant she had a chance to see if he'd give her a sulky look for reminding him she, you know, had one.

He, as she predicted, gave him a sulky look. The shuttle will fit more people, he sent back.

Stupid big, lumbering, unsexy shuttle.

Tahiri gave him a very slightly smirky look in response. Hey, I never said the shuttle wouldn't be useful either. But sometimes you just need something a little faster.

With some firepower, Ben added. Still sulky.

That I never said you weren't allowed to use, Tahiri pointed out sweetly, bringing a cookie over to him. I said I'd volunteer the X-Wing, but I never specified I was going to be the one flying it, did I?

Ben's entire face lit up. "All that and a cookie?" he said.

Tahiri made a show of pulling the cookie back. Holding it over her head, actually, for all the good that did with him still being considerably taller than her. "Not if it's going to go to your head."

Ben looked the cookie straight in the eye and laughed. "This is proving what, exactly?" he teased.

"I hadn't thought my point through that far," Tahiri replied sheepishly. "But I might just eat the cookie instead."

"Even though it's at perfect Ben feeding level?" he said hopefully.

"And there you go, expecting me to just feed you." Tahiri shook her head sadly, even though her voice was strained from trying not to laugh. "This is why I worry about it going to your head."

"You're the one with her own X-Wing," Ben said. "I'm not nearly that spoiled."

"And who, exactly, has the shiny red speeder?"

Aw, but Tahiri was nice enough to offer him the cookie anyway.

To make up for it. Yes.

Ben was going to take that cookie right now. So there!

"We could paint your X-Wing red and then you'd win," he said.

Well, fine then.

"My X-Wing has no business being red," Tahiri informed him, "and it's not as if I can go down there anyhow. I still can't seem to go anywhere except classes and places I'm supposed to be." ~~Because still, WTF CANON.~~

Ben snorted. "Are you grounded or something?"

"I'm starting to think so!" Careful with the whining there, Tahiri, you almost sound like a Skywalker. Or someone who's been hanging around one too long. "I don't get it! What did I do?"

"I don't know," Ben said. "I saw Jaina when she was stuck in her room. I couldn't get her to do a little dance to try to get out."

Tahiri would surely be shocked by that.

So shocked, really. So shocked she was giving him a look that said seriously?

"That's a shame. I'd almost have paid for footage of that," Tahiri remarked. "Although if you'd managed to get her to do it, I'd have been extremely impressed."

"Yeah, I'm not as persuasive as I thought," Ben said with a smile. "But I did get away without getting hit, and she was pretty cranky, so I'll take that as a win."

"How long had she been there by the time you saw her?" Tahiri asked, pulling over another cookie from the table for herself. "She was already in a pretty awful mood the night it happened."
