Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

"Hey, guys," said Zack once people seemed more or less assembled for today's reserves meeting. "Since we're working on getting involved in some more in-depth exercises in the future, I thought that maybe keeping it simple today would be for the best. You more or less know one another by now, I think, but do you know how the other people here in the group work?" He grinned a bit, and then shrugged. "Unarmed sparring. Grab a partner and go at it. Don't do anything to seriously hurt your partner, though. I want to see you going for grabs and holds and light contact, but not force. We want our crew in one piece, here. And if someone does get hurt, come see me. I have potions, or else I can help haul your butt to the clinic."

The look that he was wearing was one of those very serious looks that suggested that he would be very displeased if it came down to hauling anyone's butt to the clinic, okay. And considering the bouncy puppy that he was a semester ago, it probably seemed all the more severe if you happened to know Zack.

"Before we get started, I want to announce the other two leaders who will be stepping up to help me lead the group. Jak and Kennedy both have some excellent ideas about further training exercises, and they've both agreed to take leadership roles here, and so if you see them be sure to give them a pat on the back, or at least a little respect, okay?"

Whatever your idea of respect was.

Triela glanced over at the girl she didn't recognize. She cocked her head slightly.

Could be interesting.

[SP warning of my own, but maybe that'll work out?]

"Hi," Asuna said, seeing the girl. "You want to pair up?"

"Sure," Triela nodded. "Do you have experience with this sort of thing?"

"I've had some training since I was a kid but only took it seriously recently." Fighting demons would do that to you. "How about you?"

"I'm still relatively new to hand-to-hand stuff. I've only been working on it for a couple of years now." She'd spent the time before that focused on guns. She still preferred those anyway.

Asuna took a fighting stance, "Let's try it out then!"

"Anything unusual I should be aware about? Old injuries? Places not to hit?" As she spoke, Triela also slipped into a fighting stance. She realized that she hadn't spent nearly enough time practicing since she'd taken to wearing three-inch heels, and her balance was off.

Asuna paused, thinking. "I'm a little stronger than normal people but I'll be holding back."

"If it's just a bit stronger, then don't feel like you have to. I'm significantly more durable than most people." Triela, of course, would be holding back a bit, too. It would be bad to hurt the newbie.

"Oh. Okay," Asuna was a little skeptical then shrugged. "Okay, let's try this."

Triela settled herself and nodded. "Ready?"

Then, without waiting for a response, she lunged forward with a punch.

Asuna turned away from the punch and extended her arm intending to hit Triela on the shoulder.

With a twist of her hips Triela brought her other arm up to block the punch, pushing Asuna's fist out of line. "Not bad," she decided, taking a long step back to give herself space for another attack.

"Thanks!" She said, happy that her training with Setsuna is paying off. She also backed a step but only to gain some sort of momentum when she launched her favorite move.

Asuna sprang forward for a kick.

Triela's lip twitched a bit. She'd never been much of a kicker herself, and used them even less now that she was wearing heels all the time, but she'd be trained to deal with them.

She dodged to her right and brought her left hand down to shove Asuna's foot toward the ground. If she timed it right it would give her a split second to attack while the other girl recovered her balance. Triela launched a punch with her right hand, arcing around toward Asuna's ribs.

Her eyes widened when her foot went down and lost her balance she looked up in time to see Triela's punch but too late to do anything about it. Instead she braced herself for the pain to come.

With her cybernetics, Triela could punch through a wall. Needless to say she was pulling this one a bit. Still, she'd been taught that for a spar to be useful for learning, you couldn't make things easy, so it was still a solid punch.

Slightly heavier than someone as small as Triela would have been able to deliver if she'd been normal.

The punch connected and she was right, it hurt but she had been sparring with a half-demon for a few months now so she's used to this kind of pain, sort of, she still winced but Asuna didn't let it stop her. Since Triela was close Asuna decided to take advantate of this and aimed for an uppercut to Triela's jaw.

Which only went to prove that Triela's tendency to underestimate people was still in full force. She had expected that punch to stun Asuna long enough to step back again, but apparently the girl was tougher than Triela'd given her credit for.

And even when your bones were made of an extremely hard synthetic alloy, getting punched in the jaw was not precisely fun.

She was surprised as any when that punched connected, Asuna took that opportunity to jump back, cradling her ribs. "You're really good!"

Triela shook her head, scowling. "It's my job to be good." She wasn't trying to be unfriendly, precisely, but Triela really didn't like losing, even if it was just losing at dodging a punch to the jaw.

She settled back into her stance. "You know how to take a punch," she admitted grudgingly before launching forward with another punch, this one aimed straight at Asuna's nose.

"I have been to my share of brawls," she said. Mostly with the Class Rep. Asuna saw the punch coming but was surprised at the speed and only managed to turn her head, Triela's fist clipped her cheek.

It stung. She aimed a kick to Triela's shin.

This time Triela was ready for Asuna to respond, so she was able to twist her leg slightly in order to catch the incoming foot directly on her shin. It would have hurt most people, but Triela just shrugged it off.

"I see," she said, spinning around and reaching both hands out for Asuna's arm. Triela wasn't precisely good at holds and throws, but she figured she should give it a try.

One second she was aiming for a kick, the next Asuna found herself flying through the air. "Aaaaaaah!"

Triela hadn't expected that to work, actually. And she definitely wasn't used to doing it with heels. She stumbled, losing her balance as she let go of Asuna and almost tumbling to the ground.
