Peter Bishop was in the common room, a couple pizzas laid out on a table in case anyone else wandered in. For the most part, he was just watching the TV. Shows had definitely stayed pretty much more of the same in the past fifteen years, he'd decided.

Except Mythbusters was just about the best thing he'd seen on TV ever. Especially when they just blew stuff up for the hell of it. Which was exactly what they were doing on the show he was watching now.

He had a feeling Walter would like these guys.

"Live ones," Peter said. "Unblinded science might just be code for wanting to do things outside of normally scientific ethics."

"He does realize that blowing up a papaya is, like, really different from blowing up a live rat, right? I mean, scientific ethics are kind of there for a reason."

Peter paused to think about that. The true answer was he didn't know much about his father, other than he'd had a lab accident that had killed people and he was at fault. "I think he knows the difference. The part where he wanted to illustrate that difference is where Walter differs from you or me," he said.

For one thing, Claudia wasn't big on doing biology.

"Right. I kinda dug the classes we've had so far, but now he sounds kinda creepy."

"Don't worry, I'm keeping an eye on him," Peter said. "The scary part is I think he means well by it all."

"I'm very reassured, hearing that from the guy I only just met." Claudia shrugged. "Still, at least his classes so far have been entertaining."

"Yeah, sorry about freaking you out and then trying to take it back," Peter said. "But so far, the class is a lot better than I'd expected."

He'd feared the worst, really.

"How you digging the rest of the place? It's kind of a mind blower."

"That's putting it lightly," Peter said, chuckling. "So far, the weirdest part is the magic. Give me aliens any day over trying to make scientific sense out of the things that everyone calls magic."

Claudia snorted. "Tell me about it. I'm a quantum mechanics junkie and I still twitch at some of this stuff." She flopped down onto the couch. "Way I figure, they're all just tapping into some forces that science hasn't gotten around to describing yet, you know? It's all got rules, though. That's something."

"That's my idea, as well," Peter said. "And magic is just the quaint colloquial way to refer to it. What is the saying, high technology is indiscernible from magic?"

"Exactly. Just, you know, be careful who you say that to around here -- people can get really offended. And then they start showing off. And it's just kind of insufferable."

"No kidding," Peter said. "I don't know how people take some of that seriously. I was honestly told yesterday that one of the students has magic balls."

Way to phrase that very specifically, Peter.

Claudia blinked. "Diiirty."

"Exactly," Peter said. "And Karla told me with a complete straight face. I was amazed."

"Yeah, Karla's got an interesting perspective on things."

"You good friends?" Peter asked, mostly just to make conversation. "She duped me into going to that support service meeting thing. If by duped we mean bribed."

"She's my big sib." Claudia shrugged. "I've heard about those services meeting things? There's one for fighting and one for 'magic' and one for support. Where's the mad science reserves?"

"We could always start one," Peter joked. "You, me, Dana? More of a club than a reserve."

"That's true. We're in the minority, so we should band together."

"I'm actually up for that, if you like," Peter said. "Though I don't think I'm so much of a mad scientist as just... misunderstood. And not much of a scientist, really."

"But you dig the sciencey stuff, right? You're all for science solving problems?"

"Absolutely," Peter said. "I'm all for analyzing and experimentation. I'm just not exactly accredited yet."

Not that he thought Dana or Claudia were, but he simply didn't think of himself as a scientist.

"Then I totally think we should do this."

"Got an idea for a name?" Peter said. "Can't have a super-science club without a cool name."

Though in Peter's mind, super-science club and 'cool' didn't seem to mesh well.

Claudia laughed. "I think most people would think a super-science club was the antithesis of 'cool'. But we can brainstorm at the first meeting."

"I was actually thinking the same thing," Peter said. "I'll try and drum up some interest. I think I might be able to convince Emma to show up, at least."

"That'd be awesome. I should make posters or something."
