Alligator Campfire, Tuesday evening

Scully had printed out a copy of her graduate thesis (Einstein's Twin Paradox: A New Interpretation) today, and re-read it, keeping in mind everything she'd learned so far in her last three weeks here.

That would be why it's burning merrily in the little firepit outside her cabin, cover page first. As well as the page that read, Although common sense may rule out the possibility of time travel, the laws of quantum physics certainly do not. Nothing like wishing you'd never been right and wrong.

Bruce made his way out of the cabin and over to the campfire. When he saw what the girl from the other side of the cabin was doing, he had to ask, "That's not evidence, is it?"

Scully looked up, surprised at the question, and her lips quirked sideways when she saw one of her cabin-mates. "Only of my ignorance of how strange the laws of physics actually are. Why did you think of evidence?"

"I'm naturally suspicious," Bruce said. "I assume you're not from one of the stranger worlds represented here?"

"I'm beginning to wonder," Scully said, poking at the pages, and feeding another section into the blaze. "If everyone's world seems stranger than your own, doesn't that make you the strange one?" She raised an eyebrow at him, and nodded to one of the seats. "Excuse the philosophy. I'm finding this place frustrating. Dana Scully. Sophomore." And former grad student.

"Hey," Tim said, nodding at Bruce. Totally cool. Just another guy.

Tim held a toasting fork over the fire with marshmallows jammed along the full length of it.

"Tim," Bruce said, giving a slight nod. "How are you tonight?"

"I'm good," Tim said. "I was afraid the cabins would be a lot more rustic than they actually are."

Raven wasn't entirely comfortable with the close quarters of the cabins, so she decided to step outside to clear her head. She paused at the campfire to greet Scully. "Hello," she said.

"Hello," Scully greeted her.

That was the Goth look, right? The last time she'd seen it was on a pizza boy who liked to bite people.

"I didn't bring marshmallows." She smiled a little. "But you're welcome to share the fire. I'm Dana Scully."

"Thank you," Raven said, settling on a log before the fire. "I am Raven. We are cabinmates, I believe." Just in case Scully didn't notice her coming out of the Alligator cabin and all.

"B-side," Scully agreed, poking at the papers with a stick. Poke poke POKE. Grrr. "Have you been here on the Island long? This is only my third week."

"Raven, right?" Bruce asked. "How are you tonight?"

"Yes," Raven said, smiling a Bruce. "I am well, though still unused to the cabins. And yourself?"

Karla pretty much flung herself down next to Raven giving the other girl a brief smile. "Raaaaaaaaven," she said, mun not having a brain for creative posts. "I'm sleepy."

Raven did a quick check of Karla's injury to assure herself it was still healing well -- shush -- and smiled back. "Have you had a busy day? Perhaps you should go to bed."

Oh, hey, fire! Tim sat down by the campfire with a half-bag of marshmallows and stuffed as many on a toasting stick as he could get to fit, then put the stick over a section of coals, away from the main flame. "Hey," he said to Scully.

"Hey," Scully said, smiling sideways, then watched the toasting-stick maneuver with bemusement. "You know, there's always more where those came from. You don't have to eat them all in one night."

"I kind of do, actually," Tim said. "I made a bet. What are you burning?"

Karla yawned, ambling over to her campfire. A mid-afternoon nap hadn't been the best idea--now she was all groggy and disoriented.

And hungry, but that was generally a given. "Kiss kiss," she said, waving at her cabinmates by the fire.

"Karla," Bruce greeted. "Are you feeling okay?"

"Hey Bruce," Karla said, giving him a smile as she settled down. "I fell asleep in my alcove while reading today. One of those all-afternoon, heat-naps. And now I'm all groggy and discombobulated."

She shook her head, "This is why I hate naps."

Scully looked up from her fire, and raised an eyebrow at Karla. "Hello, hello?"

Karla settled down next to the fire, looking for something to cook over the fire. And then saw the papers in Scully's lap. "Not the traditional campfire fare," she noted. "Generally, I prefer hot dogs. Which aren't dogs," she added quickly. In case someone was unsure.

"Hey, Karla," Tim smiled. He was roasting vast amounts of marshmallows on a single stick.

Karla looked at Tim's stick not dirty and laughed. "Didn't have a chance to eat them all earlier today?"
