Killer Tomato Campfire: Saturday Morning.

It hadn't started raining yet and Layla was taking advantage of the current weather to sit outside and do some reading. Or re-reading as the case may be since the book she was using had clearly seen better days.

There was no fire going in the campfire ring this time around but there was a a cooler of cold drinks in a myriad of flavors and a jar of marshmallow fluff, a bottle of chocolate syrup and some graham crackers.

Just in case anyone was interested in some no-fire-made-s'mores.

"Reading out by the fire?" Hannibal asked, wandering over once he'd woken up to face the day. "Very beatnik of you."

"You just missed me playing the bongos and doing a poetry reading," Layla said with a smirk. "It was very Kerouac."

"I'm just pleased to see so many people shaking off the shackles of oppression," he said before taking a seat and leaning back against a log. "What's got you out and fighting the man so early on a weekend?"

"It's supposed to rain later," Layla replied as she stretched her arms. "Wanted to get some fresh air before it hit. And bongo practice of course."

"Hey, you can still get fresh air when it's raining," Hannibal argued. "It'll just be...wet fresh air. Great for wet t-shirt contests."

Layla snorted in amusement. "Sure, because that's just every girl's dream. Gosh. Maybe someday if I try hard enough I can win a wet t-shirt contest. It will totally validate my self-esteem right before I show up on Girls Gone Wild."

"Hey, I'd vote for you," Hannibal told her, smirking. "Besides, there can be more than just wet t-shirts in the rain. Water fights? Fun. Jumping in puddles? Fun."

"Mud sliding!" Layla said pointing at Hannibal and then clicking her tongue. "Now that's a good time in the rain. I'm all aboard for that."

"If we get a good rainstorm, I think we should," Hannibal decided. "It's not like we don't have the room. And getting dirty just means you can have fun getting clean. Go take a dip in the ocean or something."

"You're all about getting wet today, aren't you?" Layla joked. "Should we just get a hose out and spray down unsuspecting students?"

"Oh, Layla, if I weren't already taken, I would ask you to marry me just for that idea alone," Hannibal laughed. "I'm all about that sort of thing. I've graduated, it's not like I can get detention, right?"

"I think it depends on who you spray," Layla chuckled. "I'm pretty sure Zoe would find a way to throw your butt into some kind of punishment."

"Yeah, but do you think I'd be stupid enough to spray Principal Winchester in the first place?" Hannibal wondered, raising an eyebrow.

"If the conditions were right," Layla grinned. "You could always claim gremlin."

"You think?" Not that Hannibal was thinking about it now or anything. That would be stupid. "Don't some adults have like a lie detector built in to their heads or something?"

"Just wear your underwear outside your pants and say you're Ratman," Layla suggested.

"Yeah, I dunno if I'm that desperate to spray Principal Winchester with a hose," Hannibal decided. "Wearing underwear outside your pants is very eighties."

"Hmmph. Not where I'm from," Layla said chuckling a bit about her universe. "Then again the people I know are more of a spandex/leather crowd."

"They can actually pull that shit off?" he asked, making a face.

"They're super heroes and have like a half a percentage of body fat," Layla shrugged. "I prefer jeans and a t-shirt but whatever works for them."

"Hey, I have like half a percentage of body fat," Hannibal said, looking down at his stomach. "Think I could pull it off?"

"Sure. We can give you a mask and call you the snarkinator," Layla joked. "Except you can't have any red or Deadpool will start thinkingn of having his own superteam."

"I'm surprised he hasn't already tried," Hannibal admitted, shaking his head. "Guy's got an ego bigger than mine."

"Maybe you two should team up," Layla joked. "I'm sure he'd love his very own Kiddie Pool."

Yeah, that was a painful looking face Hannibal pulled before shaking his head. "Would you be like our Girl Friday?"

"I'm already a Girl Friday," Layla said shaking her head in amusement. "Or rather, I was a Girl Friday for X-Factor Investigations. Now I'm just here. I like it this way. Besides in a super team you don't need a Girl Friday. You need a female buttkicker."

"Female buttkicker, hmm?" Hannibal stroked his chin. "I think we'd have to take applications for that. You wouldn't get it by default."

"I am no buttkicker," Layla said holding up her hands to show she wasn't hiding things. "I just know stuff. Jaina or Tahiri would be the girls you probably want."

"If you know stuff, wouldn't you know where the next punch or kick or attack in general was coming from?" Hannibal asked. "Or does it not work like that?"

"Not my style," Layla replied with a shake of her head. "And not how it works. I generally prefer to set up circumstances in advance so if I do get attacked the attacker usually falls into a trap."

"See, you might not want to be the asskicker but you would be handy on a team," Hannibal decided. "Knowing you though, I bet you'd insist on being the leader."

"Hmm. You'd think that, but no," she replied shaking her head again. "Mostly because no one would like the way I run the team. I might see the chessboard and know the players but my role in the game is as a pawn."

"That's kind of ominous," Hannibal said, leaning back some. "Pawns are usually the first ones to get taken."

"Depends on how I get used," Layla shrugged.
