Military Reserves Meeting, Tuesday After Classes

The Reserves members had been handwavily notified that they would be meeting in the Danger Shop, since a combat exercise was the agenda of the day. Kennedy, for one, looked far too excited about this.

And she wouldn't be the only one! Zack was doing an admirable effort to keep from bouncing on his toes as he looked out over the reservists who had gathered.

"Hey, guys! I hope you're all ready to get a bit of exercise today, because we're not going to be getting much of a chance to stand still during this meeting!" Zack, for one, figured he was prepared. Just because the Danger Shop couldn't hurt the people in it didn't mean he wasn't going to bring all of the supplies he could possibly cram into his pockets.

So, potions. Lots and lots of potions.

"I've programmed a few monsters from home into the system," he continued, hitting a few buttons on the control panel and giving in to the temptation to bounce, after all. "Nothing too formidable until you all find your footing fighting alongside one another, of course, but at least these should make for a good warm-up."

Yeah, Kennedy wasn't asking how he managed to cram 99 potions into his pockets. "Don't be afraid to branch out a little," she added. "Try a few of the things you think you need to work on, 'cause you're better off doing that now than in a real invasion situation. But that doesn't mean goofing off, either." She was still hoping for a chance to get on someone's case about that. "We're not here for playtime, got it?"

"Dead's still pretty dead on the outside," Jak agreed. He was not as good at giving these kind of pep talks. "And around here, anything could mean you're dead. Whether you're being shot, stabbed, set on fire, bitten, scratched, clawed, maimed, blown up..." Pep talks. Yeah. "So kill them good, or, uh, one of us might take a shot at you just to keep things interesting." ... Jak.

"Uh. Maybe." Zack looked kind of hesitant on that last bit, but then again, nothing had ever really stopped any of his teachers back home from doing the same. "And I think that's about that," Zack decided, finally winding up and hitting the Enter key. "Brace yourselves, everyone!"

Yes, brace yourselves for the horrible beast that was about to appear before you, and all. Or, rather, the small army of horrible beasts. Which were... not at all what Zack had been anticipating, nor were they even really monsters from his home. So the group would have to forgive him this moment of small squeaky sounds and pointing at them with wide eyes, please.

"Duckies!"

And then, as one might expect from a unit of slightly disgruntled mallard ducks trained in the way of the samurai, they attacked.

When were they going to get to the part where they killed things? Squall glared at people and shifted antsily.

...And sipped his juice. What?
