Hayley had started a fire.

Thankfully, it was in the actual place for the main campfire, and she was happily roasting marshmallows and eating them right off the stick. This was the good life, she thought.

There was an impending cloud of adulthood and responsibility. She was ignoring that with all her might.

Because mmmm, marshmallows.

"Do you have room for another?" James asked, nodding at the marshmallows. He still was not sure how they were made, but they were quite tasty.

"Room for another where?" Hayley asked, tilting her head. "In the marshmallows?"

"For another at the fire. I...didn't mean to intrude," he said, tilting his head to match hers.

"Ohhhhhhhh," Hayley said. "Well you were looking at the marshmallows and I wasn't sure."

She nodded. "Definitely room for you, cutie."

He sat down in easy reach of the marshmallows. "Thank you. You're quite striking yourself," he said, pouring on a little bit of the charm.

"Gee, what time are you from?" Hayley said, chuckling. "I ain't heard many people use that word."

His grin grew crooked. "From what I've been lead to believe, my world is somewhere hundreds of years before this time. The maps are not the same, however, so I doubt that the Kingdom will become exactly like this place," he said, making a sweeping gesture to cover the island at that last part.

"Jeepers, if you're from then, aren't you supposed to be amazed at the fact I'm showing my ankles or something?" Hayley said.

She wasn't so good at history.

He looked. They were nice. He said so. "You'd be surprised what people wear, from full body coverings so that only the eyes peek out to those who wear even less than is the normal attire here," he said with a grin. "Of course, it would be a scandal to show up to formal festivities with anything less than a formal gown."

"Are you planning to wear a formal gown any time soon?" Hayley asked, teasingly.

"Not unless it's the only thing at hand when I'm leaving a bedchamber in a hurry," he said with a wink.

James took care to know where his clothing was, if for some reason he happened to be out of it.

"And here I was, picturing you in a strapless," Hayley said with a mock-sigh. "Oh well, so much for that idea."

"I'm not wearing the shoes," he declared firmly, wiggling his bare toes for emphasis.

Hinata wasn't really doing much in specific this evening as she crossed the camp, her thoughts more along the lines of 'mmm, a walk might be nice' when she spotted Hayley and had to detour over to see her.

"Good evening," she said, smiling. "You look like you're having fun."

"Mweeer meeeiiimous," Hayley replied, her mouth full of marshmallow. She grinned at Hinata.

Loosely translated, it was 'they're delicious'.

Hinata simply looked amused as she settled down by the fire.

"S-Speaking in tongues now, are you?" she teased lightly.

Yes, she could guess what Hayley had said but it was more amusing otherwise.

Hayley chewed for a moment, swallowed, then spoke. "Well gee, how do you talk without your tongue, any way?"

"I can't imagine it would go well," she said, considering that. "Perhaps they're telepathic? Or they write things down?"

"Wait," Hayley said, thinking for a second as she stuck another marshmallow on her stick. "There's that guy who doesn't have half his face, right? He manages to talk. Somehow."

"He is telepathic," Hinata reminded Hayley. "At least, that is what I have gathered."

"I sure wish I was telepathic," Hayley said. "I could go on a gameshow, and win everything! All you have to do is read the host's mind."

"Would that be considered cheating?" She leaned back and looked up at the sky. "If someone didn't know it was possible, I mean."

"Cheating, shmeating, it'd let you win," Hayley said, roasting another marshmallow. "It's not like it'd hurt anyone."

"True," Hinata conceded. "As far as that sort of situation goes... there's less to hurt there."

"And that's my new rule," Hayley said. "I can do whatever, it just can't hurt anyone."
