Mummy Campfire - Saturday evening

Dru knew there was a dance tonight, but after yesterday's insanity she had no desire to do anything remotely resembling dressing up for the evening. Instead, comfortably dressed in a t-shirt and shorts, she tended a small campfire outside her cabin, adjusting the wood just so to ensure that the heels she'd worn the day before burned completely.

(She was completely unaware that somewhere in Oxford her actions sent Fandom alumni M. Parker into a mild fit of twitching as a result of the shoe abuse. And if she did, she wouldn't care. Those shoes were evil.)

Raven was avoiding the dance due to yesterday's weirdness, but she grew tired of hiding in her alcove and ventured out into the quiet outside. Dru, at least, she hadn't embarrassed herself in front of, so she felt safe to approach her. "Hello, Dru," she said. "May I join you?"

"Have a seat," Dru replied, motioning towards the rocks and logs that were set about the fire. "You weren't in the mood for the dance?"

Raven sat down on a log opposite Dru and shook her head. "My boyfriend is not here," she said. That was as good an excuse as any.

"Oh? Was he lucky enough to get off island before yesterday's insanity?" she asked. "If so, I'm jealous."

"He often spends weekends visiting his twin," Raven said. She wasn't even a little bit jealous of that, really. "That is probably where he is now, so yes, he missed everything that occurred yesterday."

"Lucky him." Whether it was because of his twin or missing the insanity wasn't specified. "How was your day? Were you you? Or some strange bizarro version of yourself?"

"I was not myself," Raven admitted. "I...wore pants." What? It was a big deal!

Dru could actually relate to that. "I wore a dress," she told the other girl. "And heels!!" That declaration was accompanied by another poke at the fire, just to make sure the heel of the right shoe burned completely.

"It was unnatural," Raven said, shuddering. "They made me act as if I were someone else." It was easier to blame the pants for that.

"Same here. I wore make-up and had my hair all styled up." Said hair was currently pulled back into a very frizzy pony tail. Gee, thanks humidity. "And then I flirted with the bartender at the bar. I'm just glad I didn't join Scully and dance on the bar top."

"I attempted to seduce Chuck Bass," Raven sighed. "Fortunately he was not acting as himself, either, and he turned me down."

Dru never quite saw the appeal of Chuck Bass but she wasn't going to argue with anyone else's taste. "That's true," she said, remembering what Chuck had looked like in class the day before. "He definitely wasn't himself. He was wearing flannel." The thought was enough to make her snicker. "Well I'm glad that nothing happened."

"As am I," Raven agreed. "This island has a very strange sense of humor at times. Most of the time it is ultimately harmless, though not always."

"Very strange," Dru agreed. "Fortunately I've managed to avoid anything too horrible or embarrassing so far." And just to keep her luck working in her favor, she lightly tapped her knuckles against the log she was sitting on.

"The invasions are fortunately much more rare than changing into children or the opposite gender," Raven said. "And there has never been another as awful as the vampire Fandom."

"I can't even imagine that," she replied with a shudder. "I've only met a vampire once. It wasn't pleasant."

"I have come to understand that not all vampires are the same as the ones who were there," Raven said quietly, "but these vampires were truly evil. And it was made worse when they wore the faces of those you care for."

"That does make it worse," Dru nodded. "Seeing their face, but knowing they're not really there, and they just want you dead." Zombie, vampire. There wasn't much difference in that particular instance.

"Have you had to deal with something like that before?" Raven asked, giving Dru a curious look. She knew the other girl hadn't been there last summer.

"Yeah, something like that," she sighed. "A vampire turned my father into a zombie. He tried to kill me. I had to kill him."

"Oh, Azar," Raven said softly. "I am sorry. I did not know."

Dru shrugged, because feigned indifference was easier to deal with then the pain it still caused her. "Not to many people do. It's not exactly a cheerful conversation topic."

"This was not long ago," Raven said, sensing that pain. Dru seemed to be handling it well enough on her own, but she wouldn't be Raven without making the offer: "If you do ever need to talk about it, I am a very good listener."

"Just a few months ago," she replied. Appreciating Raven's offer, even if she'd probably never take her up on it, Dru gave the other girl a small, sad smile. "There's not much more to say, but thanks anyway."
